Thread Merging?

Recommended Posts

Does the software TGO uses have the ability to merge threads?  I've noticed a lot of topics where new threads are started when one about that topic is already running.  Confuses me on which thread to join in the discussion on.

I'd be willing to help out if the Admins need some support on the digital housekeeping.

Yes, we can do that.  The problem is it's like painting the Golden Gate Bridge:  Once we clean up a bunch of threads, it's time to do it all over again.  People are simply inclined to start new threads without searching first for pre-existing threads.

Well, if you ever wanted to give it a trial run, let me know and I'd be willing to donate time to help out in a few of the forums.

Thanks for the reply.

I used to merge threads every chance I could but as David said people would just start a new thread. I would merge two threads then the OP from a merged thread would ask why his thread disappeared and start another thread on the same topic. And it begins to look like we are editing or censoring what people are saying. Yes we can leave a place holder for the merged thread but if you are doing that you may as well leave the original thread.

Most duplicate threads seem to die off early. If I see one pop up, I try to link to the original. When they do take off, and are merged, it ain't pretty. i find that I kill fewer brain cells keeping up with the stragglers than trying to sort thru a merged thread.

Hey, multiple threads are just more opportunities to argue about the same subject.

My recommendation would to make a post and then sticky it to the effect that everyone please take the time to search and see if the topic you are about to thread on is not already active and make them aware of the fact if their thread does disappear go look for it in another thread that was started first. I have began looking a lot before beginning a new thread. I would probably sticky it in Hive section and general chat section which seem to be where most happen.....................jmho
