M&P Shield will be released with no thumb safety

Recommended Posts

I just read that the Shield will be released without the thumb safety. This got me wondering if anyone actually has problems with it accidentally engaging. I don't see how it would be possible on mine but I've seen youtubers complaining about it accidentally coming on.

I'd just as soon not have a thumb safety but mine isn't in the way. Is yours?

Never understood why they made it with an external safety in the first place. A defensive weapon shouldn't have one.

I agree. It's really only half a safety to me though. I can barely engage it anyways with a firing grip. My guess is that they hoped it would appeal more to the pocket carry audience even though it's a tad big for that.

My understanding is that it isn't that the thumb safety was a source of any problems, they are just responding to the customer's desires for a model without a thumb safety. I've been planning on buying one but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I was just going to remove the thumb safety and put a plug in the hole, but this will now save me the trouble.

It's not easily removed like the other M&P's, the safety actually carries the sear assembly.

YES and good that they are reducing the number of the parts on the gun . Less is better in my opinion. I am hoping they will go with solid pins instead of roll pins so I can detail strip it with a punch or nail or something simple instead of using a Roll-Pin Punch .
