Gold Heist

duh. And owners surprised that their alarm systems did not work.

I am guessing they did not pay much attention to risk assessment, and just bought what the vendor suggested. Blew a few fundamental / basics - those days when hiring an amateur turns out to be very costly.

Proof that if a thief wants it, they'll get it.

Though I'll agree that he "alarm system" could probably be bypassed by a 5th grader.

It was due to placing high-equity safe on outside, unprotected wall and not alarming the safe itself against attack.

Insider threat had little to do with this one.

I think a good security system would not have helped if the safe was not included in the loop of the alarm system. Also it could have been a partial inside job because if I looked at the picture correctly there were two safes next to each other and they knew which safe to hit that had all the main goodies in it. But it was mentioned that if a thief wants something bad enough and they are just good enough they will get what they go after...........jmho

Maybe inside job, maybe not.  I have been in countless small stores where I could see where the safe(s) are located, including gun shops and jewelery shops.  Which safe to pick sounds like an inside job, perhaps.  Or they cut into one, and had it been wrong, would have cut into the other after taking a look.  Small camera on a wire can look around after only drilling a hole...  and it sounds like they had something like that.

Be interesting to see if they get greedy/stupid with their loot.   Stealing it, apparently not so hard.  Selling it without anyone noticing and hoping none of the gems are marked/numbered/etc ...
