My new ride

I have been trying to decide on a car or truck to get for a while now. Started looking at motorcycles a couple weeks ago. Figured I would start back on something small and cheap since i've been 6 years without one. Went and looked at a GS500 Friday night, just didnt appeal to me. Found a 2008 Suzuki Vstrom 650, didnt have any bags on it but looked like it had the mounting hardware for Givi bags. Found a guy with a set of Givi bags for sale. Bought the Vstrom Sat and headed over to the guy with the bags, turns it he was the previous owner. He said he kept the bags cause the guy he sold it to was a PITA to deal with.lol

Loving it so far. One of the reasons for a car was I want to do some traveling and see a few places. So now I can just use the bike instead.

Awesome bikes, and you don't need the car now.  I ty to do most of my traveling by bike.  I find it much more enjoyable and even comfortable to travel by bike than car.  If you are going to get serious about it you will have to drop some money on high quality gear.  It hurts the wallet but the stuff they have out today is so good that I have ridden hundreds of miles below freezing and in pouring rain for hours and been completey comfortable.

Motorcycle camping is the best. Went this past weekend to NC and did some camping and climbing. Here are a few pics:

We got chased off the rock by thunder and lightning and rain coming in. This is Matt getting ready to rappel down.

There's tons of it out there. Check out cyclegear.com. They have pretty decent prices on a lot of stuff. AlpineStar is hard to beat all around. But there are lesser known brands that are damn fine too. I have a Frank Thomas XTI 2 suit that I ride with in the winter and it has kept me warm down to 15 degrees. Of course I have good gloves and heated grips too, and they help as well.

If you like using your hands... get good gloves.  If you like using your feet... get good boots.   If you like using... you get the idea.

As mentioned, the Cycle Gear Branded stuff (Bilt) is reasonably good at fairly low prices.  It's also a good place to try things on to help figure out sizes.  From there you can decide what you like, what features are important, and upgrade as time goes by.  There's so many brands out there its hard to choose.  I have a Shoei street helmet (which needs to be replaced), an HJC dirt helmet, a Teknic 3 season textile jacket, a Frank Thomas mesh jacket, AGV leather jacket, First Gear pants, Bilt mesh pants, AGV leathers, Sidi street boots, O'Neal dirt  boots, Olympia gloves...

Took it for a ride today. Stayed gone for about 5 hours, but made a few stops on the way and only clocked 109 miles. Had a good day.
