Criminal Insanity vs. Home Defense

Mental Illness is as bad as cancer and the victims of it need as much sympathy. A misguided friend posted an article about how hard it is to tell the violent from the non-violent afflicted people. What is misguided is that they aren't hard to spot and if they aren't rational they can't be expected to seek treatment. Healthcare is voluntary here (well, less now than it was, but still) and so there are those who are afraid of stepping on the rights of people. Of course we all know that they would rather step on the rights of 75 million instead of hundreds of thousands. The violent psychopath is a victim of their disease and we have effective treatment that they should get. We should not stigmatize the mentally ill, but support efforts to treat mental health just as much as physical health.

 

That said, if a screaming lunatic is naked, in your house, with a chainsaw... tool up and protect you and yours!

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Nashville teenager says he walked out of his bedroom Tuesday and spotted a man rifling through his family's back storage shed. But the story only gets stranger from there.

Jennifer Langley said she left her 14-year-old son, Parker, alone at their Whispering Hills Drive home just long enough to run a few errands.

"My son called me around 12:30 and said, 'There's this guy in a white van. He doesn't look like he should be here,'" Jennifer Langley said.

"I looked out the back door, and I saw him just messing around in the barn," Parker said.

Initially, the man's behavior didn't seem that unusual. He came out of the shed, carrying some equipment, and Parker just assumed maybe it was one of his dad's friends. But when the man, identified as Michael Craddock, got out in the yard, that's when things got progressively more bizarre.

"He kept screaming and talking to himself. He was not right in the head, and he was screaming curse words, random things and just talking to himself. That was pretty creepy," Parker said.

Before Parker knew it, Craddock was making his way to the front door, so the teen locked himself in the bathroom and hid in the shower.

"When I called my son back, he was whispering and said, 'Yes, he is in the house,'" Jennifer Langley said.

Once inside the home, Craddock allegedly proceeded to strip naked, grab a drink from the family fridge and even put on some of Jennifer Langley's jewelry.

"He was wearing my jewelry and he said that he thought he was in the movie The Purge. He brought in a chainsaw and a hammer. He was here to kill," Jennifer Langley said.

It wasn't until the stranger began fiddling with a door knob that Parker felt safe making a break for it.

"That's when I ran out the back door, because I knew he couldn't see me at that point," the teen said.

Craddock was still inside when police showed up to arrest him. It was a scare Jennifer Langley isn't taking lightly.

"Just to let any potential future burglars know, you don't want to come here," she said. "Mama will be packing heat from now on."

Craddock has been charged with burglary and possession of a weapon.

Although the family doesn't know him, Parker says Craddock somehow knew their dog's name. Police are still looking into why he targeted this particular house.

The young man did the right thing in getting out while unseen but his first mistake was not calling 911 to get the police coming to what turned out to be a very dangerous situation for sure. Would have been a really bad day for Craddock had he come to my house uninvited after rifling through my out building. i would have called the police and gave them all the time they needed till he came in my house and then a body bag and coroner  would have been needed if the police didn't get to him before I did. I would give the police time till he got in my house and then it would be my responsibility to protect my home and my well being.................jmho

Definitely should have called 911. Also worth noting that at age my dads guns were still mostly locked, but I could get them in a pinch...

yea, a sure case of dumb and dumber on that part. The report never did say who call the police but I went back and read that WSM article again and if you read it slow it almost sounds like Jennifer Langley was interviewing the bad guy by the way it's worded or is it just me???? She spoke like he told her why he was wearing her jewelry. And the Parker is locked in the bathroom and hid in the shower and yet Parker said it wasn't till the guy began fiddling with a door knob that Parker saw a chance to escape. If Parker in locked in the bathroom hiding in a shower the only possible door knob he could have heard the guy fiddling with would have been the bathroom door knob so how did Parker escape out the back door at that point unseen by Craddock!!!! What am I missing here?????????? Would he not have had to pass right passed Craddock while leaving the bathroom???????  I sure hope someone can clear this up for me cause i'm totally confused now!!!!

At 14, I regularly carried a gun around with me on the farm. And I had access at home.

Not sure what I would done at that age, but I'd like to think that I wouldn't have let a psycho inside the house.

At the very least, he's old enough to call 911.

In nature the weak and mentally defective get weeded out pretty quickly by their peers and nature. Bugs Bunny doesn't give up a portion of his hard earned carrots to provide the Road Runner with free mental care and medication for life. Our advanced PC society needs to revert back a few decades or so to the days when society had a little common sense administering lobotomy's free of charge for the incurable violent mental defectives. Or a one time liberal dose of free electrons at tax-payer expense.

 

When was the last time you heard of a successful cure for a defective violent felon that required no further treatment or medications? Our prisons are filled with violent incurable mental defectives with release dates. There's more of them on the loose than identified, caught, tried and imprisoned, and that's scary.

 

When the rabid skunk, bat or raccoon is camped out by your back door, what percentage of society will dip into their wallet and try to get the animal cured. Whether or not society believes a defective should be held accountable for their violent crimes, the results for the victims and families are no less tragic.
