S&W 686 Price?

Hey all,

I'm looking at buying a 3" 686 locally. I havent gotten to handle it yet, but I'm guessing it's a 7 round good/great condition used piece.

The asking price before tax and background check is $699. What do you all think of the price? I am planning on trying to talk them down a little bit (either 625 before tax, or 725 out-the-door) but I don't know how successful that will be.

If it's a 686 + and is in great condition, I'd probably pay $699 for a 3".  I've seen them for a lot higher on Gunbroker.  But it would certainly be nice if you could get them to come down a little bit.

I've got a 6" 686 that is about 25 years old, still shoots sweet and wouldn't sell it for less than 750. Good luck with the negotiations and you won't be disappointed with that model. Edited by Ugly

If it's used, they probably got it relatively cheap, you might do a little bit better, but that's actually not a bad price for that gun.  The big S&W revolvers are bringing very good money, but the market for them is slow.  Try $700 OTD.  If they got into the gun "right", they will still be making money at that price, they might take it.

Dealer cost on a new S&W 686 Deluxe with wood grips and 3 inch bbl is $614. Dealer cost for a Talo 686 with wood grips and 3 inch bbl and unfluted cylinder is $658. Both are allocated and hard for dealers to get right now.

686 dash what?
Post lock or pre lock?
What is the actual barrel length?
Condition? Internal and external.
Anything special about it?
Go to Gunsamerica or Gunbroker.com and do some searching once you know what it is exactly. Edited by DAdams

I had been looking awhile too. It's supposed to be mostly a house and range gun for the wife, but I will definitely get to put in plenty of trigger time myself :) sent from my chromed robot turd

The 3" guns are hard to come by and often sell at a premium. You did good.

Yes, very good deal. I have a 3" 686 and it definitely is one I'd not easily part with.

Nothing to do with present day, but I bought one of the first 3 to hit Lex. KY back in 1980+/-. I specifically remember the price; $289.99.....for a 6". Bought 2 more at good prices in later years.

Don't have any of 'em now. What was I thinking?

I do have an older model 3" SP101 that's a keeper.
