What's wrong with a Dan Wesson 1911?

I like the looks of the CCO.  It should be the best balance between concealment and velocity.  Hometown gunshop has a grudge against Dan Wesson or CZ.  They won't talk about a DW and want to sell me a Wiley Clap Commander (certainly a fine pistol and I have 3 Colts).

Anyone got one?

Everything I've ever heard of Dan Wesson AND CZ has been awesome, sounds like he has a personal issue. I'd just go buy it somewhere else.

Sounds like "Hometown Gunshop" does not have your best interest at heart.  They can make a profit on anything they sell so what's the reason for being picky on what they offer?  Strongly advise shopping elsewhere and not compromising what you want.

DW 1911s have top shelf quality and have some of the best fitted slides of all the mid-priced pistols I've seen.  Trigger was awesome too.  The older ones were full of Ed Brown components but I cannot say that for the newest ones from CZ.  Just don't know.

Only issue I ever had was a front sight being the wrong height for my sight picture but that was an easy fix.

I do not own one yet, still researching and mostly saving pennies, but I have done about 2 years worth of homework on 1911 (various reading message boards), my conclusion DW is top notch!  Go read the 1911 forums, you will see.

Sounds like it's time to find a new gun shop. Just moved from Chattanooga myself, which gun shop is it?

Have heard nothing but great things about Dan Wesson 1911's.

First off, to the OP............... Go elsewhere as your LGS is talking out his azz.  All he is looking to do is sell you a gun with HIS highest profit margin. The Colt WC, while a nice pistol, is not even in the same league as the Dan Wesson. DW is the best production gun on the 1911 market, period. Customer service is leap years ahead of any other brand too.

As for what goes into a DW pistol these days, it's simple. Dan Wesson manufactures all of their own parts except for the mainspring housing which is an Ed Brown. And the kicker is that there are no MIM parts in the DW. The value to cost ratio is off the charts.

I haven't seen a Dan Wesson or CZ lately at any of the shops I've visited.  Everything I've heard about DW was favorable.

This reminds of Sportsmans Warehouse trying to sell me a Kimber when I was looking for a Colt.  They lost several sales and I found several shops to purchase the guns I chose.

I have a CCO and I love it.  Its lightweight and the fit and finish is superb.  You wont be disappointed.

the dw 1911 is a great gun.  if the price was right i would jump on it.  the gun store is trying to sell you a gun that they make more money off.  they don't know what they are saying when they knock the dw 1911.

I, too, am curious what gun shop in Chattanooga this is.  I live about an hour away and shop there sometimes, and I wouldn't want to deal with a shop that would feed me a line like that...

IMO, Dan Wesson's are outstanding.  I have 2 of them, a CBOB in .45 and a Guardian in 9mm.  I wouldn't hesitate for a second to acquire more DW pistols.  Both of my CZs are top quality also.

Sorry for the reply delay.  I got locked out by using the wrong password.

The shop in in my home town, not Chattanooga.  I generally like the guys, and thought I was missing something.  My OACP is just big enough for my hand, so it is just the right size for CCW.  The one DW 1911 I have been able to handle was quite nicely done and I can afford a step better than a Colt, now days.  It doesn't hurt that my DW 41V is such a good revolver, even though the company is completely different.

My sister has a 3" 9mm Kimber with some factory upgrades that has given her several problems extracting and short stroking.  Then, the magazine floorplate broke off and dumped the contents on the floor while she was shooting it.  Misbehaved some for me, even.  Kimber was a PITA fixing it.  They patted her on the head over the phone when she called them.  When she called back and went school teacher on them they fixed it.  So, I won't be giving them my money.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a Dan Wesson. I really think they are pretty close to the top of the production model 1911's before you get into the more expensive custom models. I was able to pick up an old Dan Wesson that needed some work. Picked it up for $599 and I knew I needed to work with it but hey it was a Dan Wesson. I sent a message to CZ who forwarded my message to one of their gunsmiths. I had given them the serial number and it turns out it was listed as an "Experimental Model" so it was one of the early models. Anyway long story short, replaced all the springs with Extra Power springs, put in a new firing pin, fiber optic sights, nice Cocobolo double diamond grips. Barrel was in good shape actually. I would put my old Dan Wesson up with any new ones. If you take care of it a Dan Wesson is will out live you!

If it's anything like the revolvers, it's top notch.

This comment I have to respectfully disagree. Sometime in the 80's I had to return a brand new .445 to the factory for cylinder alignment problems. It was fixed and returned in a couple of weeks as I remember. Also, a friends .357 with multiple barrels demonstrated timing issues and was shaving lead. Long time ago and probably not even the same company now. Just my $.02.

Wouldn't dispute that. All have issues in some prod. runs. I had 3 back in the 80's, a 357, 2  44's. Never had a problem.......

well, except one of the 44's was stolen.

All three were the multi-barrel kits.

Main thing I see wrong with them, is the fact that I don't have any!

Indeed. The biggest gripe I have with DW 1911s is that I didn't buy one a few years back when they were the biggest steal in handguns.
