Take a look at the markings when you get it cleaned up.  A lot of these "Chinese" SKS's that have been coming in lately are actually Russian.

It's slowly coming along. I'll try and get some pictures at some point. As far as markings go there's not much on it, but maybe one of you will know more when I can post pictures of what little bit there is.

Sadly rust has been allowed to do some munching, as there is some pitting here and there on the trigger assembly and the rear of the gas cylinder/hand guard area.

When I was a dealer 20+ years ago, I made my living on SKS.  Chinese wholesale $29 ea, and retail $59.  Then the Russians were $39, and sold for $69.  Then my source dried up, and I found other sources that caused me to buy Russians around $79, retail $119, I thought that was high.  I sold over 500 SKS rifles if I recall correctly.  Wow what a investment I would have had!

I bought a Norinco SKS from Classic Arms a couple months ago. It cleaned up well and shoots great, but I was disappointed in the condition of the wood after all was said and done. It had more than a fair share of nicks and dings and discoloration. However, it shoots straight and eats everything I feed it and I'm very happy with that. Got myself a little piece of history. Looks like you lucked out though with the stock. Nice looking rifle.

The stock definitely has "character" to it.

Have to say, definitely jealous of the Russian beauties 06sandstone has been posting in the forums here.

I have another one I picked up cheap that had been sitting on the wall of a pawn shop forever. All mismatched numbers and whatever owner had it before decided to weld a scope mount to the rear housing on the rifle. :ugh: Plus I had a friend give me ~500 rounds that he had just sitting around if I bought it. So it didn't turn out to be too bad a deal.
