I've been a fan of the 3" barrel length in the J and K frames for many years.  Currently have J frames in 22, 32 and 38 caliber, also K frame, all with the 3 inch tube.  The longer sight radius makes a grand improvement in accurate shot placement, plus a bit move velocity to boot.  The barrel is more compact, more portable than the longer tubes.  A nice and handy length that has been overlooked by too many people.

Also you gain the very much so desired full length ejector rod.

Is your 22lr j frame a 34 or a 63? I have never seen a 3" 34 or 63. Edited by Patton

....I found and bought my dream gun today. A s&w 65-3 3" .357 mag, quite possibly the most utilitarian , practical handgun ever made....I have all these 4" and 2" revolvers now that I do not have a use for because I have a 3" k frame.

I'd be happy to relieve you of the burden of those s&w revolvers that you don't have a use for.
