I just finished my first AR build of a Spikes Tactical with 18" ss Rainer Arms Match 223 Wylde barrel 1:8 twist. I have a Tasco 8-24x40mm scope and would like to upgrade to a variable to make shots 100 to 600yds, mostly 300 yds or less.  I like the literature on Nikon BDC for 100-600yds,but 40 MOA internal adjustment looks very low. What would you recommend for $500 range or lower, prefer lower.Tasco was less than $115, 8 yrs ago.

The first scope I put on my .223 Remington 700 was a Sightmark 10-40x56 that I got from opticsplanet for under $300. Worked great. Ended up with a fixed SWFA SS 20X since I never used the lower magnification for target shooting. I'd recommend either for a target rifle.

I just got a Bushnell AR 4.5-18. So far out of the box I like it, seems to work well for the $220 or so I paid. I'm hoping to take it out this weekend, so hopeful to can get back to you with a range report. I was going back and forth between this and a Nikon AR 3x12. Deciding factors for me were the higher magnification and adjustable parallax. I didn't know what function that last one would serve. Read up on it and thought I had the basic idea, why didn't someone just say it is basically a focus knob? Would have made my decision easier.

Can't speak to whether it's going to be G2G for 600, but I'd be more confident it will do OK at 300

I am a fan of the oculus scopes at Bass Pro Shops. They have excellent glass for a low price. I have the 4-16x for my 308. On an AR, I would probably do the 3-9x BDC for shooting out to 600 yards. Really, I guess I'd depends on if I was ringing steel or going for 6" or smaller groups at that distance. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I found a deal on Vortex Viper 6.5-20 x 44mm SF Dead-Hold BDC from Midway for $299.99 with free shipping. Hope the Vortex scopes are as good as everyone says. I know its not the Viper PST, but I hope it works well for the money. I'm sure it will be clearer/better than my Tasco. I should receive it by next Friday and maybe try it out next Saturday.

Vortex stuff is pretty nice and has treated me well, I just picked up a 1x4 Burris and it still doesn't compare to the vortex...
