REM 700 Recall Should I

Recommended Posts

Posted

I had sent my 700 back to Remington on 6/1/14.  I received it back yesterday, 8/14/14.  It took about 75 days from sending it out to getting it back.  The trigger feels the same as it did when I sent it out.

This makes me hopeful.  I sent mine out around the same time.

That seems like a long time, but I guess it's not too bad considering how many rifles they must be getting back right now.  I'm glad to hear it feels the same as when it left.  Mine is going back to the factory by the end of the week.  It's getting a riveted extractor replacement too, but hopefully that won't add much wait time.

Has anybody else made good use of the discount code Remington is offering for our trouble?  I picked up an 870 cantilever slug barrel at a huge discount.  MidwayUSA has it for $369.99, but I got it for about $116 through the factory store after putting the discount code on top of their sale price.

I always cleaned my triggers with lighter fluid and I'm very touchy about using any oils that can accumulate dirt in the assembly.

My 6.5-06 is a 700 but I checked the Rem Website and my number is not in the recall. I plan on changing my trigger assay out as I like a

6-8 oz trigger for target shooting.  Since I have a tendency to run with 700's I can swap out the Jewell I get with the original if I decide to

sell this long action rifle for a smaller one.

I didn't see the links for them so here they are.

This one is the actually page where you just type in your serial number and it immediately tells you if your rifle is in the recall.

Hope this helps.

Ya know, I don't think Ive ever used the safety on my jewell at the range. Either the bolt is open if I'm not firing or the bolt

is out when we clear the line. If the bolt is closed then I'm in the scope and getting ready to shoot.

So mine has the xmark trigger. Not the pro. The only difference is it doesn't have the external adjustment screw. I have taken it down and adjusted the weight internally to 3 pounds or so but am pondering a new trigger now. I won't send it in. Right now I'm in the "just shoot it" camp. I didn't see any gunk in it.

I used that discount to purchase some OEM parts I needed to complete my 870 project. I accidentally ordered the newer style forarm tube for mine so I had to grind off a nipple where the arms sit under the BCG. I tested my 700 and she runs like a top now. They even fixed some issues I didn't mention over the phone(mag spring issue, would only retain two rounds, third would just eject itself) so that was pretty awesome!

Please note that if your firearm is being serviced under the Model 700â„¢ or Model Sevenâ„¢ voluntary recall, based on our current rate of return, we are estimating a minimum 12 week return time from point of receiving your firearm.

I called about mine and the lady on the phone said the same thing. I sent mine off 10 June, they received it 13 June so 12 weeks puts it at tomorrow if you only count weekdays otherwise its over due.

Got mine back on Monday.  Finally.  Whoohoo!

That's good to hear for you, but that just worries me the more. I sent mine off 10 June and mine is still nowhere to be seen, but at least now status has changed from received to working on it.
