That is a major reason I left Sevier Co. soon to be 15 years ago, plus there are no good paying jobs in Sevierville.

The whole area has became a tourist trap. I loved going there as a child to the mountains, but I'd rather go to other less populated places anymore.

It reminds me of Myrtle Beach without the ocean.  I don't see the attraction that some folks do.

It looks alot like Kissimmee/St.Cloud outside the Disney area near Orlando. ....took the wife to Gberg for her birthday and drove to PForge, could not turn around fast enough and leave.....that whole area is a bog of merchandise and entertainment venues designed to wring every last nickle out of people.....never again.

DING! DING! DING! We have a winning answer!

I gave up going many years ago just because of that. I can see the same merchandise in Opry Mills Mall. And I don't go there either.

I've gotta agree it is a tourist trap and a zoo up there. What is good is the impact on the economy, especially this day and age.

Went up a few weeks ago to P Forge and Gatlinburg. Spent most of our time at the aquarium and Newfound Gap/Clingmans dome. Didn't have any desire to go through the shops

Well good point, not to mention everyday costs shooting up. A big socialist wet dream coming our way!

I can think of several things to go see in Sevier County. Bass Pro, Smokey Mountain Knife Works, The Coleman Outlet, J Floyds and The Pancke Pantry, to name but a few. You have yo know when to go, though. For example, this weekend the street rodd are in town. That's never a good weekend to go there.

back in the 60's and early 70's that area was a great place to go for a weekend.  not many shops, hotels, and people.  use to fly fish in downtown gatlinburg behind the hotel.  then things went south, all for the tourist, with more christmas shops and other stuff.  been years for me, and it will be more years before i fight the mess.

I despise that area, it's been ruined.  Wife and I made a quick over night get a away to Helen, GA last year (think small scale of Gatlinburg with a German theme.  As we are walking down the strip I commented "they have all the same **** here as they do in Gatlinburg."  It's all a bunch of Chinese made crap.
