Would you notice.....

With warm weather upon us, i would normally switch to pocket carry when i have to tuck my shirt in (5 days a week). However, this year, i have been trying out a tuckable holster and keeping a .45 on my side. So, do you think the average person would notice the belt clip required for this? It's like the belt clip to no where. It sticks out to me but, i'm looking for it and i know what it represents.

 

In the last 5 years, i can only  remember seeing one person carrying with a crossbread tuckable. This was when i was at church. Due to a power outage, the service was held in a local high school. I think i was paying more attention to potential firearms because i was unarmed. I didn't know how the change of venue affected the carry laws.

 

So, i ask you, does the single or double belt clip alert you? What about the average person? I am permitted to carry at work but i prefer to keep it very concealed because not everyone has that ability. Thoughts?

 

Picture below for reference. The pictured Nike dry-fit polo shirt provide the most challenge so i snapped a picture with one of those on. Unfortunately, i have more logo'ed shirts in this variety than any other. They are the hardest to conceal in but also the most comfortable in the summer........

Well I would notice (being both a gun owner and former policeman) if I happened to be looking at you and spotted it.  Because I own tuckable IWB holsters too, and know what that clip signifies.  I believe most people in casual contact would never notice.

 

Now other people in the workplace, which is not the same as people at the supermarket, tend to notice things about you a bit more, and be more nosey in general about your business.  So you might get someone who makes a comment about it, but it is unlikely that they would automatically know what it was.  These days with big cell phones and personal audio players it might not get a second glance.

Honestly yes, when I see a belt clip I know what it's attached to.  But that's because I have one too.  The average person wouldn't notice if you were on fire.  Being self-conscious and fidgety will be more of a give-away than anything else.

I'll join the chorus of the "... they won't notice camp..."...   I'm a firm believer in what several other opiners here have said... Most folks are oblivious to those around them until something happens to draw their attention to a particular person; unless it's in a work enviornment...

 

I don't think there is a 1 in 100 chance of a person spotting exposed clips for an IWB holster, much less putting two and two together to figure out what they are for unless they already know (...E.G... LE or fellow HCP folks...)...

 

Here's the reason: ....I used to carry a glock 33 or a 27 in the hip pocket of my dungarees in a kydex hip pocket holster... Every now and then, the top of the glock would peek up a bit just below the top of the pocket where ya could look down and clearly see that it was, in fact, a handgun stowed in the dungaree pocket... The only person that ever saw or even acted like he saw that was my 24 year old... He knew what it was and what to look for....

 

Dont worry about a couple of clips showin...

Good comments from all above. I'll echo them and say that I had to look really hard to notice the clip. And I was looking for it. I believe that will be a viable carry for you.

I watched a guy walk around CVS with a gigantic hog-leg revolver in a cowboy rig for 15 minutes. I'm talking big leather holster, wide belt with filled bullet loops, the works. Add in a bandolier and he'd have been Pancho Villa.

 

I'm the only one who noticed. Most people are oblivious to what other people around them are doing.

Sometimes when out and bored I look closely and might see that one.   But most people would not.   It would depend on how you moved and all too --- your position there is not very natural or normal.

 

Its good enough for practical purposes.

No one will know what the clips are. But looks like the grip is printing significantly. So if someone were to notice something, I think it would be that. But there's so many things it could be. As long as I am concealed and thus not breaking the law and not causing public alarm, I tend to not worry about it.

When I carry IWB with a tucked shirt, my main concern isn't the clip, or even the grip printing. It's the bulge that looks unnatural where my belt no longer follows the natural curve around my side or hip and bulges out noticeably. Naturally, a thinner gun would do this less, but they all will to some degree. I can see a little of this in your pic, but would see it more if you turned almost directly toward the mirror. 

 

I wouldn't think most people would automatically know what it was, but it looks unnatural enough to possibly draw their attention. It is more prominent on skinny folks. Depending upon where I'm going and how 'sloppily' I can dress, I'll pull out my shirt just enough to let it hang over the belt line to hide the curve of the bulge. This helps hide printing as well. However, it looks like you are trim enough and neatly dressed enough this may not be an option.

 

How do you guys deal with the bulge?

Move the gun a bit further around... from 3:00 to 4:30 or so.  Less comfortable when sitting, but less noticeable.  Otherwise, don't worry about it.

 

And to add to the cell phone comments....  If anyone did notice, that's what they'd assume it was.  If you do try to cover it with a phone, I'd practice the draw/holster a bunch and make sure it doesn't interfere. 

 

People carry some freakin' huge cell phones on their belt.  I won't carry one that doesn't fit comfortably in my pocket.

To conceal it more you may try to clip it to your pants and put the belt over it. I'm still testing it but my clips are pretty strong so it just may work.

Depending on the holster, you could switch to J-clips. They're a little bit less noticable. However, I agree with the concensus above that only "friendlies" will know even if they do notice.

I was going to suggest such a thing but you beat me to it.  Great minds and all, I guess.

I agree.  I cannot carry IWB.  I pocket carry a lot but if I belt carry it is OWB.  Even then, I am generally at least casually concealed with an unbuttoned shirt, etc. as a cover garment but the few times I have truly OC'ed while out and about no one has ever even mentioned it.  I am honestly pretty sure that no one or at least almost no one even noticed it was there.

I'll echo what most have already said, most will never notice, or know what it is if they do. My eyes were drawn right to only because i've been wearing the same thing for the past 8 months. The only person who has spotted me knew what it was by the cross on the clip. Needless to say, he is one of us.  My not so slim and trim physique along with darker colored shirts do a really nice job of hiding bulges.

I may be a bit late, but usually like 99% of the time I have mine in an owb holster with a t shirt over it.

The bottom clearly is lower then my shirt by 1" or 2"  (unless I have a long shirt on)

Does not seem to matter where I go nobody sees it. 

Even completely open I have only had a comment, or even a look a couple times.  Walking around Home Depot, Lowes, Rural King, gas stations.

Half silver and black 40 cal still nobody sees it.

A few folks have already mentioned a J Clip, and that's a fantastic option. Check out PJ Holster. Worth the wait.

 

Also, I don't know what .45 you're packing, but if Galco makes a Skyops for it, the tuckable clip they use on those is almost invisible as well.

Remora makes a holster with a tuckable option (more so than their regular Remora).  It has an extra flap with Remora surface on one side and smooth on the inside.  The flap forms a taco between the holster and the inside of the pants that allows you to tuck in a shirt.  

 

I like it better than the regular Remora because the shirt slides out better without pulling the holster with it.  I use one daily with a tucked in dress shirt.  It has nothing showing outside the pants.
