What is wrong with people?

Its that time of the year. People are left and right coming in to try to sell us their guns as if we have a infinite amount of money. We do get some good deals, and some of the situations people have are quite sad, and I feel sorry for them as I've been in positions of having to sell off my guns in the past to pay for bills. Then there was this guy today.

/rant on

He comes in, wants to sell us back a Glock 19 he bought from us (supposedly, never was able to verify). We ask him how much he wants out of it, and he states that he wants $500 for it. Now, dealer cost on a new 19 is $440, so there is no way we're going to give him $500 for a used gun. We told him that fact tactfully, and that we were really bought out at the moment due to the legion of other people selling us their guns as well, and really wasnt interested in purchasing it unless it was just something we couldnt refuse.

Most people normally would understand that and move on to the next shop, but not this guy, apparently. He gets all mouthy, and starts spounting off how Dennis would do it for him, and usually only deals with Dennis anyway (never seen him in here before). I will say at this point we're getting a little irritated, but tell him that in the years working here we've never seen Dennis - while a kind and generous man, normally - give someone that much for it, and for a used Glock would be somewhere in the $375 range, and that it would prolly go out on the shelf for $425 as used guns typically must be lower in price than their new counterparts for people to buy them. Apparently he didnt like that, told us we just lost a customer, and on the way out told the guy that he was dealing with they were a prick - which rightfully agrivated him. We told him not to let the door hit him on the ass on the way out, to which he told the guy to come outside and see if he would say that, and left.

/rant off

Now, my question is simply this: the hell is wrong with people? Why can't they take something so simple as "No" for what it is and go about their way? It's not like we owe them to buy a gun from them for more than it's worth to us just because.

And Phillip, I'm sorry if this guy goes down the street to you and and tries the same thing.

BONUS POINTS::: Guess who delt with the customer! (wasnt me)

I work for a large company. I'm getting off track. the way it should is like this I stopped at frontier fire arms I saw what i had been hunted I have been here before they are always friendly everyone takes time to say hello and work there butts off to be helpful in return I appreciate all of this show respect be aware that they have other things going on if I don't like the pricing don't bitch or be rude just politely pass. Frontier has always been extremely nice and helpful as I'm sure you are. Some people think the are owed something just because they buying something. Its a two way street sorry didn't mean to ramble I just hate jerks also

Tung...I will be looking for my new keyboard in the mail...

Metal,

Some folks are just hell bent, he may have been to several shops already and just got frustrated. Who knows, but maybe you could start a consignment case of sorts, charge a flat fee of 50 bucks whether the gun sells or not...then they can set their own price and let it sit in the case for a month or so...at least make some money on it ...and the beauty is that after they leave it there, they will need a BC to get their OWN gun back!! gotta love the gubment.

Man, I'm just glad I don't have to deal with the general public anymore...

I can understand the guy being in a pinch for cash but asking an unreasonable price for something and then getting pissed when turned down is just ridiculous.

Good self control from the guy he invited outside. I don't know if I could have resisted.

We did that for years, charged $25 bucks for it - and it just got to where we didnt have any room for them anymore. That, and the fact of people getting pissed off when we wouldnt consign their gun for the outrageous prices that they wanted to put on them. I'm all for as loosing as little money as possible, hell even making a profit, but say $600 on a glock because it has extended buttons and a homemade grip reduction is stupid. Even if it is consignment, everyone wont know that and a crazy price on a gun reflects badly on us as a store.

The great thing about this country is a person can be, do, and make as much as he wants of him/her self.

The downside is they also have the right to have STUPID written on their forehead.

You ran into one of those many.

I guess it is because the non business person who does not have a grasp on business cannot understand how a shop will give you nothing for your gear but want the world for theirs. Take for instance gun shows, they ask you what you have to have for a gun and when you tell them, they say, Well, I can get that for such and such, insulting the person. Like, it don't matter what you can get it for, it's what I have to have for it. I know business is business but some dealers and shops are rip off artists for sure. If I ruffled feathers. too bad.

People desperate tend to give up their rationality, their ethics and even their morals.

In my industry right now these types of rants are common. They are going to blame everyone else for their problems. Don't take it personally. For example, google search "Wachovia" "Gainey" and read about the law suit. Then go to Gainey Transportation's web page and read their press release. Never mind that Gainey is $17 million behind in payments and have only offered to "pay you when we can pay you"... It's the lender's fault for finally calling them to the mat after 4 months while the owner of Gainey continues to draw is $1million+ salary...

This past week I had a customer offer to sell back his collateral for $750,000. Never mind that it's depreciated 25% since I did the loan for him in January for $690,000. How does this even begin to make sense? It doesn't. Just a sign of our times and it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Those that have character and integrity must have patience for those that have lost theirs in these trying times.

I work as a programmer - This means I never have to talk to most of the stupid people in our company. We have a few good Managers that interface with all the stupid. I was thinking about going to law school, then I remembered there would be no one running interference for me in law school - no one keeping all the stupid at bay.

LMAO...Daniel...dude, I see generally 200 to 300 pissed off customers a day ( I work for an airline ), and let me tell you...well, better not. People are people and just want to feel justified in what they are doing. I have found the bigger a fool they act is just because they know they are wrong, but they refuse to back down. When "we" give into them, they are no longer wrong, and what they did or asked or whatever, is perfectly fine and not outrageous.....

My personal work quote....."If we had control over the weather, we would charge more for the tickets"....

or

"Sit down and shut up, it's time to go!"
