Holster question?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)
Does anyone make a IWB leather with kydex lining either full or just around the mouth to make it easier to reholster. I really want a nice leather IWB HOLSTER, but all that I have tried cannot be reholstered without a lot of twisting , turning and cursing. i have a Crossbreed and I can reholster it fairly easy, looking for the same ease of holstering in a leather holster made like a Milt Sparks versa max or something similar.
So does anyone know of a holster maker that is doing something similar to what I described? Edited by pops572

My D.M. Bullard Dual Carry is pretty substantial and doesn’t collapse when you take the gun out. I also have a crossbreed Supertuck for the same gun and it is in no way comparable to the D.M. Bullard (other than it’s a holster).

Sometimes I sound like a salesman for Kramer Leather, but . . .

Their horsehide holsters, IWB included, will NOT collapse after you draw your pistol.

Of course those are all very nice holsters, and most respectfully, why does it matter if it collapses or not?  Other than for practice, one does not usually draw and reholster except in the rare instance of an emergency.   Comfort would be my deciding factor.

What if law enforcement rolls up on the scene after a defensive shoot?  Do you want to be standing around with a gun in your hand - fumbling to get it holstered?

What if you're injured and need to reholster to administer first aid to yourself?  What about administering aid to someone else?

Ever seen what happens when one of those "safe action" pistols gets something caught in the trigger guard upon reholstering?  A lot of those "accidents" are from worn out or collapsed holsters entering the trigger guard.  Those incidents often present the subsequent opportunity to administer the above mentioned first aid to yourself.

There are plenty of reasons you want a rigid opening at the mouth of your holster.  I'd encourage anyone who hasn't been through some formal training to do so and you'll clearly see the reasons for yourself.

Remember, it's not just your gun that matters.  Your weapon and the accessories you attach, your holster, your belt and you all matter.  It's the combined set that makes an effective weapon system.

Edit to add: I can also vouch for both DM Bullard and Kramer Leather.  They've both got reinforcement strips that'll prevent the holster from collapsing.  And, they're both really nice folks to boot.
