I literally had no idea what you were talking about. I was picturing something like an opossum or something in my mind. Boy was I surprised when I Googled it and found out that you were referring to mushrooms.

Reed.. with Morels its like this... if the stem is hollow.. its good.. if the stem is solid inside..  bad ones..

And that's 100% stake your life on it?

I've never hunted or ate morels as I'm not much for mushrooms in general.

Last time I saw a similar thread, someone linked this site. Not sure how accurate it is, but I've tagged it as a resource should I ever need it.

Nice find :)

As much as I wish I could say that was MY find, that is a stock google image that I was referencing to what they looked like...  BUT this isn't...

I love them things but don't know where to look for them or I would go look for them. Can anyone offer up any type of locations to look in like dry areas of forest or moist ares in the woods? Maybe near small creeks in woods of shady hill sides?

Moist shady areas most ESPECIALLY after a fresh rain. Look near fallen logs or dead fauna, be sure to tread lightly and slowly and keep yer peepers open, I've almost accidentally stepped on them before.

Only two things I wont eat, mushrooms and olives. Texture on the first, taste on the latter. But some mushroom dishes look amazing tho.

People will tell you all kinds of formulas to find them.. most are smaller and if you dont look close enough.. you will simply miss them. Wooded area with lots of dead logs is a good starting point. And if you find one.. there will me more.. bring a small knife.. dont rip em out by the roots..

You miss out on sautéed mushrooms on your steaks, mushrooms, onions and black olives on your pizza. That makes for some great eatin'.
