body armor

They're buoyant, the IIIA weighs 20oz and the III weighs 2.9lbs and both can take multiple hits without being compromised. I would even like to see what their IIIA could possibly stop in rifle in an emergency situation, and comes with a seven year warranty. I have no idea if that's good in the armor industry but these aren't cheap but they aren't expensive for what I've seen armor go for elsewhere.

This is just my personal opinion, and it is born from a lack of experience with being shot with or without any level of body armor... but I would vastly prefer to be lighter on my feet in a fight than hope they only hit me square in the chest and nowhere else.

If I was going to carry armor that I was confident in, it would be so heavy it would need wheels (or tracks)

That's a valid opinion... but it's a heck of a  lot easier to ditch armor when I need to go fast than it is to grow armor if people are shooting at me.

What's the price for level III plates? I'm not seeing anything listed on their site.

Never mind, Just saw the prices on the vendors websites. $454 per level III plate.

I'm going to throw these guys out there for plates(http://store.appalachiantraining.com/), they do have deals going on every now and then. Also, just wait a bit, Grey Ghost Gear has some plates coming out that are going starting under 200, with some interesting graphics upfront.

Keep in mind fellas, there's stand alone Level IV plates and others that require backing to get level IV rating, YMMWV.

Those are great prices on level IV standalone plates.

You do realize that this is just a carrier and does not include any soft armor or plates right? I'm not being a smartass but I've seen a number of folks that buy carriers expecting that they will have soft armor built in.
That aside, I don't have any experience with this product in particular but as far as bullet stoping capabilities go, if you could tape the armor to you or have it sewn into your favorite Hanes white Tee it woul stop a bullets as well as it would in most any plate carrier. What I'm saying is, things you want to look for in a carrier are things like comfort, how hot will it be, will it allow acceptable mobility, does it have molle attachment point where you want, adjustability, etc...

Everything points to it being a good carrier review wise but mileage could vary.  One thing of note would be that's a large/ extra large so it (could) be a bit on the large side for you and not be as comfortable.  Also, it doesn't include plates or soft armor of any sort.  As Luke pointed out.

lessons learned...

1. Routinely target the head, the lower gut, thigh area. If you are too far away to do that, hold fire and remain concealed until they are within viable range

2. Based on #1 above, if you are on the receiving end of an ambush by a person/people who apply rule #1, you are flat out F#####.

No matter how well you try to armor up, there is always some associated vulnerability. It's either unprotected an unprotected area or you are so weighed down you can't move effectively in which case you become a slow target.

It definitely shouldn't be to big. I really just don't know how their sizing runs.

Grey Group is having a sale (somewhat) on the Mayflower Low Pro Carrier for $150 if you give them a call.  Doesn't have side plate carriers but Mayflower makes an adapter to hold the side plates.
