Anyone been to Stones River Shooting range in the Nashville area ?

Just wondering what I need for hanging targets...ie..staple gun, clothes pins, etc ?

Can you use IDPA targets there ?

I also heard they have an indoor pistol range..is this accurate info ?

Thanks in advance! :)

on the targets, I'll take IDPA and standard bullseye targets. I was going at 10 am friday and not sure if I will be able to reach them by phone before then,....

Basically any targets that have a human feature are banned, even if you get a playing card from one of their own cadre.. That happened to me, the cadre was fine with me shooting it until some prick, I mean other RO came buy complaining about it, then they went and got the TWRO Officer on me.. Freaking ghei..

Don't have your carry weapon on you.

HCP or not, they will freak. (Just guess how I know  )

That's right, before you get to their range, have it unloaded and in a box/pouch/carry unit.

The ROs are usually nice, but respect their rules.

yea they are strict but for good reason. They get all of the Antioch crowd out there so be prepared to put up with a bunch of guys that have no business on the range goofing around and trying to macine-gun their desert eagles while hitting nearly everything but the target.

Seriously - It's an incredible range from the comfort / safety consideration but certainly not a place to do anything but shoot from the bench.

It's right next to my house and I go 2-3x per weekend and have made friends with all the regulars but just understand that it's a public range, it's main purpose is hunter education so they look down on human-ish targets and things like that but you can certainly get targets that aren't human-like that have similar target areas.

Watch out for Jenny (sp?) she's one of the pistol RO's and loves to bitch at the guys while turning a blind eye to the blatant mistakes made by the female gender .

+1 on the female RO is a royal f-king idiot.

Myself and others have seen her give bad advice, butt into conversations that others are having about shooting advice (a "real" firearms instructor talking to a friend trying to learn and she wants to give her two cents for example), spout gun myths as the holy grail, etc, etc.

Most of them are good guys, but there are a few idiots out there. Oh and Frank Maschoff was a RO out there also. Don't know if he still shows his face there or not.

There is one RSO who is normally on the pistol side of the house on Sundays that I just can't stand. You will be sitting there doing your thing, and he will come up and say, well I do this, you should do this etc. When Sling and I are going to meet up at the range, the arrangement is that whoever gets there first, tries to get on the side of the range that he is not on. On this last Sunday, the other RSOs were talking about how they didn't like to work with him when he stepped out of the range area. It made me feel better that I wasn't making a snap judgement.

We had one of their RSO's sign up here in the early days of the forum and he didn't last very long with us. Quite a few people, myself included, tore into him about some of the same things you guys are saying.

Just ask HunterH... people become RSO's because they are power mad! :D:hat:

(just kidding, Hunter)

Most of the guys out there are pretty nice. There is 1 guy though. He is so old he probably poots dust. He just gets under my skin. Everytime Im there he will stand about a half inch off my arse & watch me like a hawk. It drives me nuts. I could understand if I was out there acting like a fool or didnt have a clue what I was doing. I just like to go drop about 200 rds & go about my buisness. I dont want anyone that far into my personal space.

Range Nazi's anyone? I won't go back again

Agree!

One of the smart ass ROs made the comment about me doing the Bill Drill as a waste of ammo - - - I asked him how much combat he had seen.......

The A-Hole didn't have a clue. You would think that he would have left me alone since I was in uniform wearing all my scare'em badges & tabs.

Even though it is a bit of a drive, the Montgomery County Shooting Complex TWRA range is awesome. Most of the RO's I met there are retired military out of Campbell, some from Group. All were very professional and knowledgeable, without butting in and telling you about that they are.:D

Alot more relaxed, you can go prone on the 100 yd range and it goes out to 400 yards next to the 100 yd range.

The TWRA officer there was one of the biggest smart asses that I ever met. He acted like he was doing me a favor. They have forgotten they are there to serve us , and their pay comes from hunting and fishing licenses , if not for us they would picking up trash.:D

I like the price.. Most of the other ranges are higher priced and I just do not want to pay it. Yes some of the guys over there are a little " Different " but they are volunteers. I have met some great guys over there and like to go an shoot there. Follow their rules and you are good.

Yes it can be nerve racking when someone there just keeps getting in your space but some people are just like that, you know.

That is exactly why I cannot stand public ranges like that! BJ:mad:

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

That's exactly, word for word, what my wife said to me. and she got p.o'd at the RO..an old guy, that kept hovering over her. I finally engaged him in conversation and backed up so that he would leave her alone. It was either that or ask him to back away and allow her to shoot..or put us off the range.

I probably won't go there again...hey! great idea..lets get together, pool our money and buy a couple of range memberships for owl hollow till the end of the year..then when someone wants to shoot they can call one or the other who gets the passes..and they can sponsor the ones that want to shoot.

I'm up for it since I don't do much on the weekend when I'm not working.
