Does this mean that as a non-citizen that can't legally get a carry permit, but CAN legally own a firearm, I would be able to legally open carry??

The companion bill is awaiting a vote in the budget subcommittee of the House Finance Committee.

It isn't law until the esteemed Governer signs it. I have no idea what it means for non citizens.

Immigration law, unfortunately :( I have to remain an E2 visa holder for as long as the government will allow me to renew. Then I have to leave. Unless the law changes I have no way of staying here permanently. Edited April 8, 2014 by robtattoo

Family. Me, my younger brother, mom and pops. Thats not even factoring the lawyer fees after someone in texas messed up our forms. Every six months, your case is pending. We were supposed to get all our stuff around december of 2001. And then the jackasses crashed the twin towers. Never in my life have I hated a group of people more. And they kept on moving offices, so for a good two years we did not hear anything. The system needs an overhaul. BADLY.

I was thinking total costs were much more than $10K.  The family I know of (and only three) probably as  much as $25K sunk into the overall effort. And like you....languish.

That what we conservatives/libertarians want...but those kind of people don't vote Dem, so why would they want them to come here legally????

There is no requirement for a person to be a citizen to get their HCP or buy a firearm. As long as they can pass the criminal background check they can buy a gun and get their HCP. Now there are some restrictions for those on certain types of visitor visas but anyone who is a permanent resident alien can get their HCP even if they are not a citizen.

Thats what happends when you happen to be honest and try to be legal.....

It very cost prohibitive to get your US citizenship legaly.. ( well. .depending on your status ) costs will vary.. 

and look at Cesar Milan.. came over as an ilegal.. and now is a citizen and on TV... I am all for making money and gettin ga chance to make it.. but its very sad to see that the population across the border gets  so much prefference and I have to bend over and pay out of the ass just to get a Green card renewed at over 500 Bucks a pop...

Dont get me wrong ..I love the US.. you prohably wont find a more patriotic person  than me.... and I am glad and grateful to be in the US.. but sometimes I think they have the laws and priorities mixed up.

That sucks. I was under the impression there was a legal, if difficult and expensive, way to become an American citizen.

When my aunt and grandmother came in the 92, it was NOT the hassle and insanity it is today. And the fees where much less. By 97 she had taken her citizenship test. My grandmother is far too stubborn and just keeps renewing her green card every 10 years. And amnesty is a slap to those of us who followed the system to get here.

Can you not just be a resident? I know I have my permit but I'm here on permanent resident so it may be different.

There are different types of residency.  And they keep changing them left and right. They also have dates where you have to be present in the states before so you can be placed on a specific residency stay.

I just renewed my green card last year. I have no plans to leave the US permanently but if you become a cit, the IRS gets their claws into you and it's hard to get them out should your circumstances change (yes, I do pay all my taxes).

Been paying taxes ever since we moved here. When my uncle, who is native to chicago meet us, he said two things: Only two things to living in the us, death and taxes. You can cheat one, but never escape the other".

The problem is not so much living in the US as should you decide to leave. Heck, there are people who have never set foot in the US, who have never had a US bank account or had any dealings with the US whatsoever who are supposed to be filing every year according to US law.

 

Meanwhile, once I set foot outside the UK*, the government there ceased to care.
