TN OC bill passed Senate

Recommended Posts

The US Senate couldn't pass Obamacare without a 60 vote majority either ...

Guess I don't get your point, as the ACA did pass cloture with 60 votes and then also passed period with the same 60 in the Senate.

Do you mean there aren't 66 votes for the rule 53? It was still my understanding that a Rule 53 motion had to be voted on regardless of apparent support?

I wish they could have done something for the park bill, but I guess that scares too many people.  At least the car carry bill passed for folks without handgun carry permits.

Do you have a link to the separate car carry bill? I've been scanning around, just can't seem to find it.

Far as I know, this is it:

Thing is, it doesn't show it being passed in House yet. And the only news story I can find on it is from Memphis Commercial Appeal which claims it passed and has been sent to Gov. Wondering if the paper is wrong?

Well, now, if I look at link again:

I see indeed that both Senate and House have voted on the Senate bill, and both passed it, so I guess it is a done deal!

Repeating between two threads, it's only right -- since Castle Doctrine is extended to the vehicle for some time now, obviously the firearm law regarding both home and vehicle should logically be the same.

In contrast to his prior letter, it seems that somebody seriously yanked his chain. Although the spirit is still there regarding the fiscal process, the overall tone is incredibly different.

And that committee is "special", just read Stacey's rant on it. No way it is representative of the entire Houses's bent on any given bill.

Rep. Van Huss better have some solid funding on his side.  A letter like that is sure to make the Tennessee Republican Party think twice about giving him any from their pool of money and may even lead to them supporting a challenger in 2016 if he gets re-elected this year and keeps pushing things in the next GA.

All the more reason for the People to line up and support him.  It has been proven that when that occurs, the Establishment gets to wear egg on their face.

I was referring to the use of the reconciliation process to pass the House version of the bill in the Senate with only 59 votes after Scott Brown's election in Jan. of 2010, after which the ACA became the "law of the land".

They only needed a majority in Senate to pass the Reconciliation Act, as it was not subject to filibuster, passed 56-43.  Obamacare was already passed regardless, but yeah it's an underhanded way to change something already enacted, but GOP has used it also.
