Hey Officer....What do you make?

Recommended Posts

I haven't read all of this. Too much bickering and whining.

I just got home from vacation. On that vacation, the widow of a close friend spread his ashes over the mountains of East Tennessee. She is a young widow because her husband was doing his job to keep the people travelling through Jackson Mississippi safe. As he was putting a gas grill someone had dropped on the interstate into his cruiser, he was struck and killed by an inattentive driver.

I will say this, there ain't a lot of a chance that I could get killed in a similar fashion doing my job. Though anything is possible.

What I do have to say is a simple 'Thank You,' to anyone and everyone who does something to put someone else above themselves. No matter the profession.

If I find it belittling to suggest that being a cop is no more worthy of praise than being a janitor, that's my call.

To be fair, have you ever had to clean a restroom after someone who isn't your child defecated in the floor and then used said feces to paint the walls? That takes a strong stomach and some bravery. I am not sure I have the fortitude to be a janitor personally.

Every job is important. My first three years I worked mostly traffic. I still have nightmares from being the first Officer on scene and having to give kids CPR on two occasions; they both died. Paramedics, Firemen and ER workers do that all the time, it has to be tough; I don’t know how they do it.

Cops, Teachers and Doctors. No society can flourish without these three professions.

And the worst the economy gets; the more Cops, Firemen, and Doctors will be needed. With those of us that still have jobs or own property paying the bills.

After cleaning up my own kids' puke and poop when they were young, I gotta hand it to anyone who has to do it for a living.
