  Fellow was driving across the (mostly drained) lake bottom this evening in a Ford Explorer.  Tried to cross a little 'creek' (looked to be a foot or so deep) and got well and truly stuck in the mud.  Frame deep. 

  I tried with my Cherokee and winch, but it was just dragging the Cherokee closer.  Time for a bigger hammer - went home and got the M37 and a heavy duty chain.

  Pro tip - those little holes here and there in the frame are NOT for chains.  That's what he hooked it to, though...  so after dropping my tire pressure 15 pounds and putting it in granny low, out she popped.  The chain actually pulled through his frame a good 5 or 6 inches, peeled it like a can opener - but at least he doesn't have to wait for the tide to lift him off.

 

  Judge awarded the ex the M37.  She doesn't even know how to start it, so it is still sitting here until she finds a buyer.

 

  I'm going to miss that truck...

  Well, it kind of upset him that he couldn't touch my military retirement (I retired 4 years before we were married), so he gave her the truck 'in lieu of' $4800 in alimony.

 

  As I spent 2 and a half years and close to 20K doing a frame off total restoration, I'm less than totally thrilled with that decision.  Among others.

*sigh* Mark, I am sorry to hear how you got shafted out of your truck (& house & other stuff) man, 25 years ago I wen't through it myself & know first-hand how much that sucks.

If you'd like me to try to buy your M37 back from your EX just let me know, then you can just buy it back from me at whatever price it is that I can get it from her for.

I will of course drive it a little between the transactions, but I promise to treat it as if it were mine (ie: that means I'd take care of it).

Thank you, that's an incredible offer.  Thing is, now that I'm retired (and have some medical issues, I can't really go back to work) I can't afford to buy the things I could when I was sailing.  I'm hoping to get enough from the forced sale of the house and most of my other stuff to buy an RV.  I'm looking for one around the 20K range.

The only way I'd buy the truck from your EX is if it was to hold onto until you bought it back off me, as fun as it would be to drive occasionally I already have more vehicles than I have time to enjoy. :)

Outstanding work on the truck! Judges are damn near as bad as the ex-wife in most cases. I know the feeling! I've come to accept that I came in to this world with nothing and will leave with nothing, everything else I get to play with in between is a bonus. Even if it's stripped from me before I'm done with it. If you do go with the RV route, I recommend checking out the 5th wheel styles. They are a lot of bang for the buck. Glad you kept your retirement, I lost some of mine.

My father got shafted hard from a female judge when my parents got divorced many years ago. He couldn't do anything right in the judges eyes. Yet he did everything by the book, even had a high dollar lawyer. None of that helped. Sorry to hear what your going through Mark. Its a shitty situation. My father swears that if he knew what he did now he would have burned everything, house and all.

  I like the fifth wheels, but my daily driver is a 99 Cherokee.  That isn't going to tow a heck of a lot...  If I can pick up an acre or two somewhere, maybe a park model.

this is the exact reason I have been with the same woman for 15 years and have not got married. Two kids and fifteen years. Funny thing is were tieing the knot next Saturday. Lol. Wish me luck haha
