Ceramic Media

Recommended Posts

Anyone here use ceramic media in their tumbler? I did a search and found one thread on TGO from over a year ago with a couple of mentions of using wet ceramic.

All I have ever used is walnut media, although I have done stuff like add beads or BBs to the mix to try and help clean the brass. 4mm beads can get caught in small primer pockets, and 6mm BBs can get caught in .223 brass necks - but adding something to the walnut has seemed to help the cleaning process.

Specifically, how well does ceramic media work dry in a vibratory tumbler? I have found a few posts online saying it works dry but is better wet, like stainless tumbling. I assume this would break down slightly, so media that is a mix of 3mm, 4mm and 6mm should slightly wear to a smaller size and may not be an issue with getting caught?

There is a guy on Arfcom selling some, 4# for $20 shipped and I am tempted to try it but like I said, cannot find a whole lot of info on effectiveness.

I just don't want to go through all of that, really don't care if my brass is THAT clean. Walnut media has always been good enough for me, just wondered if the ceramic media could be a good middle ground between walnut and wet stainless.
