If I'm not mistaken your friend works with my wife at the hospital. I've been watching the for sale boards on Facebook and I let a couple of the gun shops know around here in case it comes in there. Likely not, but you never know Edited by KKing

Having investigated property crimes for years, this is the worst way to try and get a stolen firearm back. If word gets out that the gun and it's serial number have been reported stolen it will end up in the bottom of a river or get put deep into a closet to be used as a throw down gun.(both cases you will never get it back)
It's best to just report the gun stolen and never post an ad like this. Sit back and wait for the day it gets pawned or is located on a traffic stop. If anything let word get out that the serial number was unknown and you didn't call the police, maybe the will think that they are in the clear and try to sale it.

Works both ways though....criminals are known to be stupid so in theory it should work both ways.

let word get out? how many criminals are known on TGO? if so please ban them! criminals are not gonna search for a post for a stolen gun add before they try and sell it... prob the victim would be Jo Blow gun guy off here buying a good deal and unknown to him its stolen... plus the SN on a stolen firearm only stays in NCIC for 1 (one ) year...so you have to report it every year

Cars and Firearms stay in NCIC until removed, others do need to be updated yearly. I used to think everything had to be updated also, I got clarification on it recently.

Truthfully the problem occurs with honest people when they find that their most recent purchase may be stolen, it never sees the light of day again. I Will give you an example. Whenever I used to get called to run a number I wouldn't do it unless the gun was in front of me. When I told the person that I would have to keep the gun if it was stolen, they no longer wanted me to run the number. I even got into an arguement with someone over me keeping it if it were stolen. Rediculous that someone would want to keep a gun that belonged to someone else. Edited by Patton

of course cause they are out of the money or trade or how ever they acquired it... but running a number before you actually make the trade would be the smart thing to do... but my post would keep someone from even getting into that situation of purchasing or trading for a stolen firearm... :)
