I'm not having much luck getting good patterns at 40 yards with my Remington 1187. 12 gauge and my sons 1187 20 ga.I have a Hastings .665 and a Primos Tight Wad .660 for my 12 ga. And a Carlson's .575 for the 20.I've tried different size shot and different brands.About the most I can get in the head is about 20 shot.I heard different people brag about there shotgun putting 60 or 70 shot in the head at 40,50,or 60 yards. What are some of y'all using?

I honestly can't tell you at the moment what choke I have in my Mossberg. It was the one that was in it when I bought it and it does good with 3" #5 shot Remington shells.

As far as pellet count goes, I can't give you a number it's been a few years since i shot it on the paper to see or count. But it was enough to kill a turkey.

Sometimes a tighter choke does not help. Usually you see this when you use "softer" lead shot. The choke squeezes the pellets and deforms them to a point where they can become

less aerodynamic and the pellets open up the shot. I'd first try different size and brand shot. Stick with "Turkey Load" shells. If that doesn't help, then I'd go with a different choke.

I've been told by MANY, MANY Turkey hunter that some of the best shells are Heavy-13.

I think they even make a Blended Shot now? 6-4 in shot size.

I just haven't broke down and paid what they want for them to try them.

People say a lot of things. I wouldn't get too caught up on other peoples pellet counts.

I noticed you said head, are you counting the neck too? The neck area counts in the "pellet count"

Full choke. High brass #6 shot. Just like it doesn't take an elephant gun to kill a whitetail, there's no magic in taking down a bird.

A lot of guys sitting around a gun store are simply full of feces when it comes to tales of their shooting prowess.

Yes , I know it just takes that one pellet in the right place.I'd like to get them to pattern a little better though.I'm gonna try to find some #6 turkey loads to try.

I shot at paper a little this weekend. I shot 2 different Mossberg 935s. One with a 22" barrel with a .690 choke & one with a 28" barrel with a .695 choke.

Also used 2 different loads. I tried Remington Nitro Turkey 3 1/2" 4 shot & Federal Turkey Thugs 3 1/2" 5 shot, both were 2oz of shot & 1300FPS advertised.

The 22" barrel gun also has a rear sight on it & It was shooting a little to the right on both shots. I adjusted it & will try it again in a day or two.

All shots were at 40 yrds. & count is of pellets in the heat & neck inside of the 7" circle HS strut target from Wolly World

First was 22" with a .690 choke (shooting to the right)

Remington 4 shot hit 17 pellets.

Federal 5 shot hit 25 pellets

Next was the 28" barrel with a .695 choke

Remington 4 shot hit 26 pellets

Federal 5 shot hit 31 pellets
