Cheap Portable Multi-Size Target Holder

This is made from less than an 8' 2x4....  It folds up nicely for storage and travel, and can be used to hold paper targets of several different sizes, and golf balls and lollipops for difficult shots

I imagine wood will stand up a bit better from errant hits than PVC pipe, which I know from experience doesn't fare well at all. :)

Yeah, we've had pvc pipe that lasted about 50 rounds, and we've tried those wire signs that you put in the ground, and we've just tried duct taping them to limbs....   I figure a staple gun on a split 2x4 would be substantial enough to keep the wind from blowing them around, and it's cheap enough to build...   This is a prototype, but if it works the way I hope, I'll crank out several more just to have around...

Nice & simple. I wonder if it might be venerable to being blown over by wind coming from the rear, with the end of the paint stick resting in the supplied indentations instead of being rigidly locked in place. If the paint stick mounting screw was moved further down the 2x2 (closer to the wooden dowel pivot), then the bottom end of the stick could overlap the horizontal 2x2 on the side. You'd just need to figure out some sort of removable method of attaching the lower end of the paint stick to the side of the horizontal 2x2.

The dowels are in there pretty tight and it's not easy to open and close, probably because I drilled the holes with a hand drill instead of a drill press, so they're a little cock-eyed, but I like the stiffness it's created to keep it open :-)

Easy... Run some 1/4" lag screws into one of the legs... 2-3 screws a few inches apart.  Don't run them all the way in, leave about 1" between the underside of the head and the leg.  Upsize the prop to something about 1/2" thick with a hole drilled just big enough to clear the bolt head.  The prop should be flexible enough to slide over the head of the bolt.  Add a couple tent stakes to secure it to the ground.  Cool idea.
