Maybe the snake just got tired of the dog yapping all the damn time while it was stalking other prey.. (I know that's bad, but I got a GSD that's not lap dog friendly)

1993 or 94 I was in Florida camping. We drove all the way down to the Keys and camped for a few days at a time to sight see on the way back up. We drove down alligator alley and stopped at lake Burns. We had been there a day or so and an older couple in a RV pulled in, set up, and wouldn't you know it the old man comes out and screws into the sand one of those dog stakes. He put a little dog on it and after waking up from my nap they had a gator on the chain. I felt bad for them but thought to myself you can't fix stupid

Yeah, that's not a 50 year old python like the article states. At best it's about 7 years old
