S&W 40 cal what? Sigma, M&P, 4013, 4003, the list goes on...

Don't worry too much about what we have to say, but whether you are comfortable with the gun and happy carrying it.

Congrats on your new gun!

.40cal is a good manstopping size....congrats on the purchase...whether or not its too big really depends on you and your comfort levels...im a pretty small guy and I carry a Commander Sized .45 most of the times so I wouldnt worry too much ;-D Ymmv

You did good. No need to worry.

Since you are using it for both HOME,and Self defence it seems to be a good compromise.

Now all you need to do is shoot it.....

Carry as big as your comfortable with. I carry a Glock 23. My friend carrys a full size 1911 with a ten round extended magazine another carries a Kel-Tec, it's all what you are comfortable with. For home defense my personal pick is the Remington 870. You seem like you picked a winner for a pistol because YOU liked how it felt in your hand. I second Tnshooter83 just go shoot that thing, enjoy it. Learn that trigger. Pick up a book on tactical shooting (my personal favorite is Tactical Pistol by Gabe Suarez) or take a defensive pistol class. Remember when S.H.T.F. you will not rise to the occasion you will sink to your training.

If you want to carry something a little larger, invest in a good holster. That with a good belt you will be fine. A good holster is cheaper than a smaller gun.

Possibly one of the more underrated but good firearms out there. So Glock-like that Glock sued them for it!
