Tumblers ? Are these deals any good ?

Are these tumblers any good ? I am just getting started and have everything except a tumbler. One of these comes with the sifter and media and polish . The other is just the tumbler . Both have "Mid South" labels on them but I dont know who makes them for Midsouth. Any comments on the quality of these ?

Beats me. Haven't seen one with that flat top. You can probably get a Frankford Arsenal for about the same price.

They work well for a vibrating tumbler.

I haven't used a tumbler from Midsouth but other than the color it resembles one I have from RCBS.  There's not much to go wrong with a vibrating tumbler.

I think the Midsouth, Cabelas, and Berry's tumblers are all the same with a different color and sticker on them. I have read a couple posts on other sites proclaiming that anyways.
I have a Lyman Turbo Pro 1200 I am thinking about getting rid of for a larger tumbler. I have a Frankford Arsenal and it will hold almost double the brass the Lyman will. Keep capacity in mind depending on how much brass you think you will process at a time - I underestimated when I got the Lyman. Edited by jonathon1289

I don't know about the tumbler, but you will thank yourself for buying that separator. It looks similar to my RCBS. One of the best purchases I've made.

That's the tumbler I'm planning on buying. My research found that they're all made by the same company in different colors for the various retailers... Midsouth (Red), Cabelas (Green), Berrys (Blue), Grafs (Purple). Since I don't yet own one, I can't vouch for whether they're as good as everyone proclaims, but I've read good things about them. I particularly like the clear lid and big knob.

Instead of replacing mine with a larger tumbler, I use a second tumbler for a different caliber.

Do I clean the brass in the tumbler WITH the spent primers still in the brass ? Like I said I am new to this stuff and just starting off. Any help is appreciated .

From what I've read, if you are using some sort of tumbling media such as corncob/walnut/etc, most people leave the primers on because (I've read) depriming them first can increase the chances of media getting caught in the flash holes. However, since I soaked my brass in Lemishine, I used the Lee Universal Decapping Die. One thing to always remember, in my opinion, would be to never use your reloading dies to decap dirty brass. That will get your dies dirty very quickly, and could also damage them if there was a rock or something lodged in one of the pieces. You don't have to worry about any of that with the Lee Universal Decapping Die.

Thanks CZ9MM. I have the Hornady single stage press and kit and Lee Carbide dies. So sounds good and thanks for your help

If you use fine enough media (such as pet store lizard litter, maybe corn cob bedding as well) then it does not get stuck. Normal reloading media from RCBS and others is not as fine and it does get stuck in the flash hole.

My process is tumble my brass so it is clean, then deprime/size and then tumble again. The 2nd tumble is not required for pistol and I sometimes skip it, but for rifle brass the 2nd tumble removes the lube residue.

I got the Midsouth TUmbler with the seperator and the media and the polish . It say to use the brass polish by adding a cap or two caps . Does this mean to our it directly into the media while in the machine ? Looks like this would make the media chunky or moist . Anyone know ????

It will make some clumps. Run the tumbler without brass for a few minutes. The clumps will go away after you start tumbling the brass

I second that. Sure makes it easier with a lot less mess.

I have the Frankford Arsenal separator and hate it - it makes a mess since it just rotates over a bucket. I may grab one of those closed separators to keep the media contained and from flying all over the place when I rotate.

I tumble my brass in the house on a carpeted floor.. NO mess. Once I have run it thru the separator, I just dump the brass on a towell and wipe off the dust.
