Some people have dogs that will retrieve a newspaper; Great Danes can retrieve your mail.

You got that right! He walked up to the mail box and his nose was right on the door of it :)

I'm sure the new dog food is the cause of "shoo shoo" issue. Whenever we've rescued dogs without knowing what type of food they were previously eating, we would start them out on rice with boiled chicken. After a couple days, we'd start adding dog food to the mix.

I've been checking the Lost and Found section on Craigslist, but haven't seen anyone looking for him. Who knows, maybe some asshat got tired of him and just let him go.

Just wanted to update. The Great Dane rescue group was able to find Mr P.'s owners! We are so happy to hear it and were told they were extremely happy to have him back!

I've had my dog/dogs stolen (1 the first time and the second time they got 2 of mine and 1 that belonged to my folks) and can only imagine how happy I would have been and still to this day would be if someone showed up with them. Glad to hear the big guy is back home, good job!

They are good with kids up until the time they start putting the kids' heads in their mouths. Sixteen stitches on the forehead, six around the side.

That is not the dog's fault. It is the owner's fault for not socializing the dog and then not monitoring the dog. Very rarely does a dog just become aggressive without warning. There are almost always warning signs and if the owner didn't take those warnings seriously then it is their fault, not the dog's.

I agree with Dolomite on that.  It's not limited to any breed (or even dogs) and there are always warning signs if you know what to look for.

Dolomite is 100% right. There are no bad dogs just bad owners. I am glad someone found the owners. I already texted the wife about looking thur SPCA contacts in the area.

There are tons of great dogs out there in need of good homes. In fact, I just read about a Great Dane rescue in your area...:)

I'm a sucker for pit bulls and will own no other dog but I've not always thought like this. I never had anything against a pit bull or any other specific breed but after I adopted a rescue pit I realized just how great the breed is. I'm saying this because I agree with your statement and it gets used quite frequently when you own pits. I have two exceptions though and they're are both related to Dalmatians. Both of them were with great families and were always good with kids, cats, adults, etc.. But both snapped and bit for no apparent reason and showed no signs that I could see. One bit the daughter of its family and the other bit the son of its family. The son was bitten during a game of fetch and the daughter while sitting beside the dog watching a movie. I understand that SOMETHING was the trigger but when the trigger is hard wired with no fuse it doesn't give any time to change what you're doing.
Now that's 2 instances out of hundreds and hundreds of dogs I've been around so I'm thinking that's good odds.
