It may be that I just woke up, but reading that made me look up the definition of dangerous weapon.

dangerous weapon n. any gun, knife, sword, crossbow, slingshot or other weapon which can cause bodily harm to people (even though used for target shooting). If a person is harmed by such a weapon that is left unguarded, improperly used, or causes harm even to a person who plays with it without permission, the victim or his/her survivors can sue for negligence and possibly win a judgment.

Other than ( even though used for target shooting.) the definition makes it sound as though the weapons have a mind of their own.
Weapons are not dangerous, how they are used can be.

Sorry, I over thought this one a bit.

I know this has been mentioned before but TSA only discovers the weapon at the security checkpoint.  Local airport LEOs actually make the arrest.  Curious to know how the news agency found out about this...

I don't understand how this keep happening. I'm pretty paranoid when going through the TSA checkpoint so I double check everything.

My moms friend got busted with her Glock in her purse. Then a year later she forgot to remove her knife...

Okay, off topic...but I'm a little slow today. I looked at your avatar and just stared at it for a while.  Then the light came on.    :stunned:  I get that way sometimes.

At least the idiot is not loosing anything particularly valuable...a Jennings and a Charter Arms.

If you're going to get busted at least have some class.

About once a year I represent someone on this type of case out of the Memphis airport. It's always a class A and class B misdemeanor. Not too difficult to get dismissed, but they have to pay something like a $1500 fine to TSA. That plus the lawyer and court fees, plus missing your flight, plus having to get booked and go to court and all that, makes it an expensive and inconvenient mistake. At least it's not a problem to get the gun back once the case is over.

I always worry about a knife in my carry on. The same hiking backpack I use is the same one I take as carry on, so I comb every inch of it before I go. I got caught in a foreign airport with ammo that was in one of those internal side pockets that no one uses. I had been using it as a range bag. Needless to say, after talking my way out of getting thrown in a 3rd world prison in check my stuff thoroughly every time. I can see, though, how folks could make simple mistakes. Firearms are a sensitive enough item that it doesn't make sense one would lose track of it in the first place, but I don't agree that it should be a major crime if it is just an honest mistake.

I don’t know how they specifically work it now in this modern age of information exchange, but it used to be the news media looked at the Police and Fire logs. They also monitored emergency frequencies. Not much gets pass them.
