Question on Ruger Old Vaquero and Red Hawk

I have a possible trade on a gun, and the choices are a Ruger Old Vaquero in stainless or a Red Hawk in stainless plus another gun.

My questions are as follows, and I'll begin googling, but figured there was first hand knowledge here that is more valuable to me than google results...

1) is there a difference or does a standard Red Hawk exist? I've looked online, but only see Super Red Hawk. Btw it's a .44
2) the approximate value on above gun? It appears to be in lnib condition.

3) the Old Vaquero comes with a spare .45 apc cylinder. There are huge variations in pricing online, just looking for a ball park if anyone has seen them bought or sold recently.

4) General thoughts on both models? Pro's / cons?

This will be my first step into big bore revolvers, and don't have much experience with values/pros/cons ect.

Thanks!

The Vaquero with both cylinders is a "good" find, if it were me it is the one I would get.

Make sure cylinder numbers match, though, so you know it was factory fitted and not just thrown into deal from another gun.

Concerning convertible pistols, I'd inquire to make sure the extra cylinder is original to the gun.

Great minds not only think alike, but apparently simultaneously. :)

Thanks for the clarification Batman. And Red I appreciate the input also. Is it rare to find the vaquero with box, papers, and spare acp cyl?

Might be kind of rare period, since Ruger doesn't even offer a convertible model Vaquero at all any more?

edit:   check that, there's one distributor's exclusive from Davidson's that does.

Interesting. I know the model is the Old Vaquero, it's in box with original everything. Looks unfired

I don't think you will go wrong with either choice. It boils down to personal preference really. Do you like the thought of a double action, or does a cowboy looking revolver suit your fancy more?

I would prefer the Vaquero, simply because I think it is a pretty gun, and never cared for the looks of a Redhawk that much.

What's the other gun you'd be getting with the Redhawk?

The other part of the possible deal is a Ruger SR22.

I was considering both in trade for my AR pistol 7". Not sure the values line up though...

I'm liking the looks of the Vaquero, but honestly never owned a big bore wheel gun. I have a security six that is nice, but always wanted something bigger to tote during deer season for some odd reason.

Ruger 45 colt 400 to 600

Ruger sr22 300 to 400

I dont know what you value your AR for, but sounds like a good deal to me.

Someone already mentioned the rarity of the Old Vaquero, I just happened to know someone who had a shop who bought a 45acp Vaquero, according to the Ruger rep the Vaquero in 45acp is rare anyway.

Since they can both handle the missile loads I usually tote the single action along. Redhawks are easily found. I would go for rarity and get the Vaquero, especially if it looks unfired.
