I know their tools aren't Craftsman, but then again Craftsman are no longer Craftsman (In name only). But I am not a professional mechanic, so their tools suit me just fine. I have ordered a few things from them, but didn't live near one until I moved up here. Now I cant stay out of the place. I dont make a trip to Chattanooga without making a stop in Harbor Freight.

A few years ago I bought a Dremel kit with 14 attachments at Sears, cost me $40. I have bought 3 Dremel rotary tools at Harbor Freight with about 500 attachments and havent paid over $25 for all of it. And it is the same darn thing.

And I like their coupons. Last week in the email I received 4 coupons, FREE screwdriver set, wrench set, and a couple of other things. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. What other store can you walk into, buy nothing and walk out with something? Plus, their coupons never say 25 or 50% off of this excluding this, that and the other. Its always "25% off any item in the store.

I bought a tape measure there, for $1. I own a Stanley that cost around $25. I swear the Harbor Freight tape measure is actually more heavy duty than the Stanley.

I (For some reason) seem to go through a lot of rope. A 50 foot nylon rope at Walmart is $5, at HF, .99 cents.

I bought a fairly large portable digital safe, with the coupon I paid less than $20 for it.

Anyway, I love Harbor Freight. Just sayin..

Stay away from that place, it's very addictive.. the free stuff coupons will get you there..  got a few tools (mostly air) and a welder from there. sockets, rachets, etcs. I usually get from Lowe's when they are on clearance (they switch between real tool builders ) or Northern.

Their stuff is great for the home hobbiest and some are even suitable for "real" work too. I love the place. Used to have some if their bench tools, grinder, sander, the like. Came time to move and I could fit everything else in my car except them so I left them with a friend when he bought my bandsaw and some other big stuff.

It was cheaper to replace them than it was to move them 1700 miles. Still haven't replaced them, haven't had the need and haven't had the time to use them for my enjoyment anyway.

I have three rules for Harbor Freight:

  1. If I'm going to use it more than once, then I'll probably be happier paying a little more for something with a guarantee
  2. If my safety would be a risk by the tool breaking, then I need to look at something else - this one came into being by watching more than one Harbor Freight impact socket grenade into a million pieces of shrapnel.
  3. Wear your dang safety glasses! (A direct follow on of rule number 2)

I do love looking around in there from time to time, but more often than not I leave without buying anything of consequence.  That said, I've bought a bunch of oddball fasteners, e-clips, roll pins, etc... over the years.

The tools seem better for the money than the bits. Ferinstance I've got several HF saws that work great with USA or Germany blades, but barely cut with the blades that came in the box with the tool.

The price and quality is pretty good on the made in india belt sander belts, but a lot of em have a bigger "bump" when it rides over the splice. Which can often be worked around but is annoying. Edited by Lester Weevils

I have one of their 12000lb winches on the front of my Suki and it has been flawless. And I have had to chain my Suki to a tree to pull someone else out that weighed more than I did. JTM We the People of the United States, in order to form a more Perfect Union......

Buddy of mine sent me a video showing off his ultrasonic cleaner. He set an entire 1911 that he had put a few thousand rounds through. It didn't come out spotless but sure did away with a lot of cleaning. I got a coupon and bought one of the smaller ones. All i can say is I should have bought an ultrasonic cleaner year's ago. On sale with a coupon i paid 20 dollars for it and now everything i have that is metal, dirty and will fit goes into it. And it has worked without a hiccup for 6 months now. Every gun part during disassembly goes right into the cleaner.

Be careful with aluminum stuff in the ultrasonic cleaner.  Depending, they can do a number on them.

I know a couple of guys who have those safes in places where thieves are likely to look first.  They're loaded down with bricks.

I couldn't have said it better.  I have a lot of tools I've bought from HF and they all work great. Drill bits, Multi bits, screw drivers, garage rolling work stool, tye wraps, cotter kits, ratchet straps, sockets in SAE and Metric, ratchets hammers, wrenches, several sets of allen sockets and allen sets, motorcycle lift,  3 ton hydraulic car jack and lots more and I've been very $200 worth of stuff after the sale discounts.  Great place for non professional seldom used tool items for around the house.

Love me some Harbor Freight. I have the U.S. General tool cart at work. Ball bearing slides with a shelf for cans, spray bottles. http://www.harborfreight.com/five-drawer-service-cart-95272.html You can often catch these things for $169.00 and It is just as good as the name brand truck items you find.

Put a case of oil on the bottom, and just roll it out to the aircraft. I did buy a side folding shelf from Snap-on and modified it for the other end as a "Desk" for paperwork or small work station. Bottom line, it is well built and a darn good deal.

Something else I love is if I need a special tool, (Modified), I'm not cutting/grinding a Snap-on wrench to get where I need to get. We have several modified tools for certain jobs in the shop and mostly they came from Harbor Freight.

Typically go for tools I'll not put to heavy use.  Bought some pin punches from HF that didn't hold up well so some things you have to be smart about.

I use to be a Northern Tool guy.  Then I discovered Harbor Freight.  The only way to cure the addiction, is to buy and have everything they offer that you want.  (Seriously from personal experience)!  :D
