Found this tonight have seen pictures but have never actually had one in hand. Been thinking of trying a 17hmr revolver for a while. Well once I got it in my hand I was not going to give it up. Ruger hunter 17hmr.

Squirrels and Rabbits should fear you...

Squirrels and rabbits? Hell I fear you. That's a wicked looking handgun.

That's one fine Ruger. My mouth started watering and my eyes glazed over when you posted the photo. I've been curious about the performance of .17HMR in handguns but don't know anyone who actually owns one. Been thinking about getting my Dad chambered in one as a gift to go with his varmint rifle. When you get some time and rounds on the gun, please post an update with your thoughts and pros/cons of the gun.

Thanks guys been looking for a revolver in 17 that had the option to mount a scope for a while. Don't know if I will scope it right off or not. I did run into a couple boxes of ammo today so just need to get some time to shoot it. I was surprised when I saw it they seem for me anyway to be a hard item to come by. Excited to finally have one to get to try out.

Have you put any or enough trigger time on the Ruger .17hmr Hunter to provide an opinion on the revolver? I've been eyeing Single Sixes in .17hmr as a Christmas gift for my Dad (in hopes I'll get it back someday, hopefully later than sooner) but have also considered the Hunter. There's literally one on Gunbroker every couple of weeks and I've never seen one in person. It's like a unicorn. I imagine recoil is next to none given the weight but am curious whether you feel going the .17hmr route is worth it vs. getting a .22lr/.22mag. But the old man is obsessed with .17hmr because of the long term velocity.

Also, have you scoped it? If so, what range of distance is the revolver capable of accurately shooting with and without the scope for an average shooter?

Shot from a good rest that handgun should produce some amazing groups. Of course you realize you'll be spending as much and likely as not more for a scope than you paid for the handgun don't you?

Theres just something inherently bad ass about that rig. It's like if Quigly did have much use for a revolver, thats how it would be decked out.

I imagine it's tough finding holsters though? IWB probably next to impossible :D ...

I have one too , love it!

How has your experience been with the.17hmr? Do you think the Hunter model is worth it or do you think plain jane stock fixed sights on a Single Six are good enough? Also, what kind of distances are you getting out to with the scope?

I love the balance of the hunter , I have not dialed the scope in yet.
