Or for some of us that work in the IT field and have the pleasure of working from home either because we are lucky and employers allow it or because in the middle of the damn night we have to answer calls.. 1GB throughput would be nice..

Example, I looked at Dell.com the other day and most of my ads I see have dell.

Do I agree with it? No. Can I do #### about it? No.

I recommend adblock. Not perfect but it helps. Also, there are a bunch of other plugins depending how serious you want to get.

adblock + noscript ~ bliss

Also, rarely or never use google search, google sites or google apps.

I often use https://startpage.com

Startpage delivers supposedly anonymized google results, and connecting https ought to provide a little privacy unless yer isp runs its own secure server proxy.

Once I get a startpage search listing, I right click open in new tab to examine the links. That avoids forcing numerous updates of the search results page, and more possible cookie traffic if I click on link 1 and read it in the same window, then click back, click on link2 and read in the same window, etc.

Hello,

You’re among the first to hear: we’re beginning conversations with Nashville-Davidson to explore what it would take to bring fiber to a community near you.

Over the next few months, we’re going to work with city leaders on a joint planning process. We’ll assess what unique local construction challenges we might face, and then map out what we would need to do to bring Google Fiber to Nashville-Davidson. This process will take some time, but we hope to have updates on which cities will get Fiber by the end of the year.

We’re excited by the possibilities here in the Nashville area. Help us spread the word so that your friends and family also hear the news.

We have a lot of work to do over the coming months, and we’ll make sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, you can find more information about our plans at google.com/fiber/newcities.

Thanks,

The Google Fiber Team

I read this to mean that Google is looking to use taxpayer dollars to build this. Is that correct? If so, I say let Google keep their fiber.

No, just asking the city if they can handle 100's of permit requests per week...  and be given right away access...  obviously they pay for each permit just like any other business...  so they wouldn't be getting any special breaks that Comcast and AT&T aren't getting.

And trust me, you'll see the price of your cable and tv service go down from both AT&T and Comcast the day Google decided to build out fiber here in Nashville.

Google fiber will cost 30% less than what I'm paying now, and be 35 times faster...  That should upset you a lot more about how we're being ripped off by Comcast and AT&T for Internet service.

Okay, I'm going to ask regardless of what the price is going to cost, I see competition that to stop the Comcrap shenanigans. Like a full year of their digital starter and then after the year they change the channels and say you should never recieved that but if you want it, it 30 dollars more..

I don't live in Nashville, so I won't benefit no matter how this goes down. But on the other hand, I really don't need gigabit speeds at my house. If I really need that kind of speed, I have an open 1Gbps Internet drop at my desk at work, and I get paid to use it. ;)

Actually that's not the way it's been happening in the markets Google Fiber has entered so far. In each the competition posed by google fiber has forced incumbent providers to either up speeds, lower prices, or in some cases both.

Pro-tip, middle-click or ctrl-click should open in new tab on most browsers I think.
