Google Fiber Coming to Nashville

Hello,

You’re among the first to hear: we’re beginning conversations with Nashville-Davidson to explore what it would take to bring fiber to a community near you.

Over the next few months, we’re going to work with city leaders on a joint planning process. We’ll assess what unique local construction challenges we might face, and then map out what we would need to do to bring Google Fiber to Nashville-Davidson. This process will take some time, but we hope to have updates on which cities will get Fiber by the end of the year.

We’re excited by the possibilities here in the Nashville area. Help us spread the word so that your friends and family also hear the news.

We have a lot of work to do over the coming months, and we’ll make sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, you can find more information about our plans at google.com/fiber/newcities.

Thanks,

The Google Fiber Team

There are already 7 communities in Tennessee with 1 gig fiber to the home capability. The problem is with that bandwidth, you will need big time hardware upgrades. For example, as of last year, excluding industries, there were only 7'customers in Chattanooga taking a full gig. It is funny that Charter advertises 60 meg! I laugh at them and tell them I can get 1000 meg if I want it. They don't know how to respond to that. Morristown T n has 1 gig fiber to the home if you want it as well. Edited by cardia10

google provides you with all of the hardware needed.  (I wonder how many new ways they've found to make money off of real-time user data).

If... If they come, you can have full 1gig fiber in both directions.... if you sell your soul to the google.  :)

Like any other ISP doesn't already do that?  Might as well get some smokin' fast bandwidth for it at reasonable rates.

From what I've heard, it's pretty cheap as well! I'm all for cheap and fast bandwidth! Hope Sumner Co gets it! I'll be watching closely! ... sent from my pocket rocket ... my Samsung Note 3!

After thinking about this more. To get super fiber speed there has to be a high percent of fiber from the start to end point. A major telecom carrier has been selling fiber promises to thousands of subscriberS. Funny thing is yeah there's fiber going to the central office. Them that signal rides 75 year old copper to the residence. The same carrier doesn't want to do anything but barely repair copper as it is and can't wait to see bucket trucks go away. So for someone to promise fiber I side with get me a beer, y'all watch this shit!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 of course it ate my spelling.

... OR you can get 5 down and 1 up FREE for life with a one time set up fee of 300 bucks. ...

TANSTAAFL.  google, err the see eye eh, is in your inner tubes monitoring your bits.

Considering they aren't doing anything you aren't already paying your ISP for, yeah it's free.

How do you figure?   Comcast / most isps do not have the wherewithall to monitor and extrapolate things about your behavior like google can.

In case you guys missed it, the NSA and everyone down to the ad tracking cookies is monitoring your internets.

Let them put their fiber in and then we can fight the spying later.

All I'm saying is everything you say that will happen with Google and spying is already going on. The NSA or any search engines for that matter. A lot of free email spy's so it can setup advertisements via location and the type of stuff you look at online.

Example, I looked at Dell.com the other day and most of my ads I see have dell.

Do I agree with it? No. Can I do #### about it? No.

So stay with Commiecast or whoever your currently with and pay out the eye-sockets and keep thinking that'll protect you from spying.

Oh, I totally understand what you are are saying.  It's mostly gallows humour.  :ugh:

Listen to me now and believe me later.  :D

Hell, all we can get here is 3g/4g, so they only get to monitor 10gigs of my activity.  :)

Ads?  What are ads?

I'm on 105Mbps and get 124/22 about when I test it. Off their commiecast boost stuff I don't know what it averages. So they probably monitor the #### out of me! Especially since all I google all day is right-wing news, guns, etc.

It tested this a sec ago:

Anyone that can monitor your traffic can, to an extent, be able to guess your interests. Google does it for the moolah! It is called market research. I doubt seriously that any branch of the government wants to know what computer part I might purchase next or what I am considering for lunch. However, they would be interested in things like what political party I most closely relate, things I research to be "home made" and any other activities they could use against me later...and they can get this information from any ISP. But then again, we all just brushed off PRISM (Google was just one of many, I am sure your cell phone company was on that list too) and forgot about Snowden or called him a traitor...

Anyway, back on topic. Grats to everyone in the Nashville area, that rules!

My point was that google can do everything you stated on it's own.  I'd wager they have as much or more hp than the NSA and all the isps put together.  If you think they are in it just for the money, I've got a bridge you may want to take a look at.   BTW, I bet the .gov does care about the pc parts you buy since they could be used for _____.  You better believe there is a fact table out there with every purchase you have made.  :D

Yes it is all pointless.
