Have you ever eaten a MRE? In case you haven't let me explain to you how the MRE TP works..

- take little packet that you rip off the top cover

- unfold the few sheets they provide you

- you fold it in half and then half again

- you rip out the top triangle and set aside

- with the hole you just created insert your finger

- wipe/scoop with your finger

- wipe off with the sheets

- used said corner your ripped off to pick your nail clean

- wash hands

BTW, I kid, we usually carried TP in a ziploc bag with as much air out of it as possible..

I have a stockpile of $1 for six rolls from dollar general. Good stuff. I should last at least two weeks :) Sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee

If it hits the fan, we'll likely need more than just TP since it'll be everywhere, and all over the ceiling too. :shake:

An option could be: water; rinse, then dry off.

Or... you could just use the three shells like a civilized person.

How can people put SHTF and modern conveniences in the same sentence?

You best learn which leafy plants are poisonous and which aren't.  ;)

Baby wipes. buy in bulk at Sam's Wholesale. They work great in Afghanistan. Fit in back pack great, moist for good cleaning and for bathing in the field so why not as toilet paper. Just make sure you get the unscented brands. You don't want the bad guys to be able to sniff you out..............jmho

8uga9ugy.jpg9yza2aze.jpgdynuzyba.jpgAmericans are spoiled with toilet paper & hell yeah I buy the good stuff cause I like something less than 100 grit but I have a few pics. The top of was a restaurant in China typical squatter on one side & western style on the other - both had paper. The next one is a set of outdoor urinals at a warehouse in Bangkok, mostly women worked there so modesty was not really an option & lastly that was the toilet at said facility., the idea was to do your business wipe with your hand, rinse it in the foam cooler of water then scoop enough water into the bowl to get it to flush. Then there was a sink in front of that with cold water & no soap - FUN TIMES Edited by Schadenfreude

TP is luxury.  If I could not get it some water and a bare hand will suffice.

At least twice in my life this has worked just fine.

I was on a job @ 20 yrs ago in Vegas. The guy I was working with came out of the bathroom in the room I was in and said I like the gold plumbing stuff but why make a sink right next to the toilet? I explained its there in case you wanna drink or wash your hands while taking a dump so u can get back to the casino faster. He replied oh, ok makes sense.....

Best answer. Leaves work fine, as long as you don't use the wrong kind.

I've spent too much time in parts of the world that adopt the hand method and would cling to the last shred of dignity I had not to resort to their ways if possible. There is a reason their life expectancy is incredibly low. Our immune systems couldn't handle the constant exposure to fecal matter like them. They grew up in it.

Sorry, but as Grunt, certain things we can not be without and TP is one of them, the shorter the better as long as it doesn't fall apart while wiping. Baby wipes were great but walking with a wet butt crack is not something I enjoyed so TP was always double ziploc'd and first on the packing list. And that was even in the jungle with all the nasty crap and shit that would kill or eat you.

We might be spoiled but, nothing like wiping with something that is not going to sand your butt crack raw.. Like army issue TP or even some civilian companies..

Seems funny that they would use their hands when they usually have a perfectly good rag on their head :)

Ha, I thought I always packed enough TP, but I remember coming back from the field a few times with my brown shirts missing sleeves... some of them were midriff.

Were they brown when you went into the field?

Ha, yes. This was before the tan undershirts were all the rage.
