Seeking Optics Recommendations For 300 Blackout

Recommended Posts

Like the title says, I'm looking for recommendations on optics for my 300 Blackout rifle. With the exception of Leupold, (I'm not into paying more for the scope than the rifle), what all do you recommend?

The rifle is a 16" 1:7 AR platform shooting supersonic 110/125 grain projectiles. I would like an illuminated reticle but it isn't a deal breaker. I'm a rather large and older fellow who likes/needs good eye relief. I think a 10x would do, but I'm open to variable power too since my eyes aren't what they used to be.

Vortex Viper PST line. I love my 6-24x50 even though its to much glass for what I do. Maybe a 2.5-10x32? Tapatalk ate my spelling

Quick question, what are your plans for this rifle? Distance - near, mid, long in yrds or meters?  that will help narrow down to what to offer you..  Variable or Fixed?

The typical range of the 300 Blackout which I believe is around 600 yards, but since the ranges around my house are quite limited it'll mostly be shot out to 200 yards. It will not be my home defense weapon. I have a 9mm AR for that since I live in a very populated neighborhood.

I second the vortex pst. 2.5-10x44 should do the trick. 4" of eye relief, beautiful glass, and a bulletproof warranty. I personally like first focal plane scopes, but as this is short to medium range the extra cost probably isnt warranted. Huge step up in quality from the lower entry level fodder, without breaking the bank. Should be able to pick one up under $600. I think that 10x will be plenty of magnification in a scope with good glass like the vortex.

The 2.5-10x32 is a great scope, the biggest difference being that it is a First Focal Plane model. Its gonna bump up the price a couple hundred though.

I plan to buy a Hi-Lux Leatherwood CMR-AK762 It's an illuminated 1-4x24 with an AK-300blk optimized reticle http://www.opticsplanet.com/leatherwood-hi-lux-1-4x24mm-cmr-ak762-illuminated-tactical-rifle-scope-for-ak-47.html Seems to be a quality scope that won't break the bank. If more magnification is needed I'd look into the nikon p-22 2-7x30. The reticle will be real close to bullet drop and you can use nikon spot-on to get reticle yardages.

I know you're not really leaning towards Leupold, but the Mark AR 3-9x40 can be found for about $350.  Its been a very nice scope on mine.  Super clear and sufficient magnification
