Good/best barber shop in Nashville area?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a good barber in the Nashville area. Moving from Memphis I have only ever had close access to sport clips and the like. I am looking for a good shop that can handle the classic cuts and really pays attention to detail. If I am going to pay $30 for a haircut I want more than some clippers ran over my head. Preferably a shop that can do good beard trimming. Any recommendations? I found Red's Classic Shop online that seems to get good reviews.

I use the barbershop in the ground floor of the Oxford House here on campus. Several good barbers on staff. Address should be something close to 1313 21st ave South and there is free temporary parking right in front of the shop for customers. Best way to get to the parking spots is to turn in at Dixie place and keep right around the mobile home/construction trailer, the barber shop is on the other side of the trailer from where you entered.

Joe's Barber shop-  is the other that is mentioned around here but I haven't tried it.

"The Moose" as it's referred to around here is for college kids and wannabe country music stars who want highlights, dye jobs, and whatnot with the cut. The gals that own the place are great and all it's just not a "classic barber shop" if that's what your looking for. I had a gift certificate a few years back, it wasn't a bad cut but the atmosphere wasn't my thing.

Depends on how much you are willing to pay for a haircut.  I've been to Oxford as I work right across the street from it and I hated the way they cut my hair.  They were pretty reasonable on price though.  My favorite is Uncle though.  They are more expensive but they give the best hair cut(s), shaves, etc on a reliable basis that I've found outside of my old neighborhood barber who passed on many many years ago.  I've seen the Governor getting his hair cut at Uncle a few times while I was there at the Bell Meade location.

Yeah I saw uncle and it seemed nice and in my price range. I am also interested in Green Hill Barber shop. They have two master barbers on staff. I may have to try one of these two out.

In my experience Oxford can be hit or miss depending on who's chair your in and how busy they are. I like all but one of the barbers there but I'm not too picky, and working right upstairs I can just come back another time if they are busy. I've never had a cut at Oxford that was bad enough to have me look elsewhere, or that didn't meet the wife's criteria.

Yeah, I wanted to like Oxford because it was so convenient to work but my first time there was bad enough that I didn't give them another shot.

ETA - each Uncle location has at least one senior barber as well but they charge a small upcharge for booking an appointment with them over the others.  I've had cuts by both before they did the upcharge thing and those guys/gals are definitely aces but Uncle seems to be fairly picky when hiring barbers to begin with and I've never had one of the non-senior barbers do me wrong on a hair cut.

-had a good experience at Uncle's on West End/Harding.  prices and services are on the web

It's not a one-man long-timer kind of place... but the skills were there.

hot towel, warm foam, straight razer, etc.
