Ohio National Guard Training Envisions Right-Wing Terrorism

Documents from an Ohio National Guard (ONG) training drill conducted last January reveal the details of a mock disaster where Second Amendment supporters with “anti-government” opinions were portrayed as domestic terrorists.

The ONG 52nd Civil Support Team training scenario involved a plot from local school district employees to use biological weapons in order to advance their beliefs about “protecting Gun Rights and Second Amendment rights.”

Portsmouth Fire Chief Bill Raison told NBC 3 WSAZ-TV in Huntington, West Virginia that the drill accurately represented “the reality of the world we live in,” adding that such training “helps us all be prepared.”

Internal ONG documents provided to Media Trackers after repeated delays provide further context to what WSAZ-TV reported last winter.

In the disaster-preparedness scenario, two Portsmouth Junior High School employees poisoned school lunches with mustard gas, acting on orders from white-nationalist leader William Pierce.

The ONG team discovered biological weapons being produced in the school, requiring activation of containment and decontamination procedures.

Participants in the disaster drill located documents expressing the school employees’ “anti-government” sentiments, as well as a note identifying Pierce as the fictional right-wing terrorists’ leader.

ONG’s 52nd Civil Support Unit participated in a similar drill involving left-wing terrorists with Athens County first responders last year; public officials apologized for that training the next day in response to complaints from local environmentalist groups.

No apology to Ohioans who support limited government and the Second Amendment appears to be forthcoming.

Scioto County Emergency Management Agency director Kim Carver refused to comment, telling Media Trackers she was “not going to get into an Ohio Army National Guard issue that you have with them.”

Ohio National Guard Communications Director James Sims II suggested Media Trackers was “inferring” from the ONG document’s contents as opposed to “what’s actually in the report.”

After excerpts of the report were read to him, Sims said it was “not relevant” to understand why conservatives may feel unduly targeted by ONG’s training scenario.

“Okay, I’m gonna stop ya there. I’m going to quit this conversation,” Sims concluded. “You have a good day.”

Buckeye Firearms Association spokesman Chad Baus told Media Trackers that “it is a scary day indeed when law enforcement are being trained that Second Amendment advocates are the enemy,”

“The revelation of this information is appalling to me, and to all citizens of Ohio who are true conservatives and patriots, who don’t have guns for any other reason than that the Second Amendment gives them that right,” Portage County TEA Party Executive Director Tom Zawistowski said in a separate Media Trackers interview.

Media Trackers reached out to Portsmouth-area state legislators Representative Terry Johnson and Senator Joe Uecker for comment about the drill, which took place within their respective districts. Neither replied to phone calls or emails in time for publication.

ONG’s January 2013 training exercise is one of many instances where government officials have identified those with limited-government or pro-Second Amendment opinions as potential terror threats.

In 2009, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security warned law enforcement agencies that a predicted rise in“right-wing extremism” would be fueled by “proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans” and “the election of the first African American president.”

Throughout modern history, groups and individuals associated with left-wing causes have proven far more likely to commit acts of domestic terror.

In 2012, members of the anarcho-socialist Occupy Cleveland movement were arrested and prosecuted for attempting to destroy the Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge with explosives, to commemorate International Workers’ Day.

Last year, leftist groups Earth First and the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) claimed responsibility for the sabotage and property destruction of businesses in Washington and Van Wert counties.

And this is how ignorant our left-wing radical Govt has become.

Nidal Hasan yelled out Allah Akbar as he shot up unarmed soldiers at the military base, but it was called a work-place shooting.

Yet our Govt thinks they need to train-up to fight pro-second amendment supporters and they envision we would launch a bio-attack against innocent citizens.

So now, if you're pro-2A and pissed the Govt is anti-2A and trying to revoke your constitution rights, you are a potential domestic terrorist?

Let 'em believe whatever fantasy they want... The solution to this is to vote out the idiots who advocate this.... There is an election in 2014... Vote early and often... The sons of b*****s who like this stuff will....

Keep your powder dry....

With this administration, and with many of the three letter agency bureaucrats, pro-constitution is anti-government.

I will leave the corollaries to this position to you.

I think the bigger concern is the politicization of the National Guard and the military in general...  I can't think of another time in our history other than possible MacArthur getting so involved in politics.

Oh boy, all the scenarios I remember when I was in the guard. Being an infantry unit in a hurricane state much of our scenarios were civil disturbance/looting. Good lord, the tin foil would be worn tight if I shared all those stories.

I have no trouble believing that this is true...the government is scared and they have reason to be.

The federal government...all of it... is almost completely corrupt (with a few...very few exceptions) and they are scared that the may finally be found out to be the worthless, corrupt, morally (and financially) bankrupt people they are.

Even though this administration tries desperately to put a happy face on everything (even to the point of claiming that millions losing their jobs because of Obamacare is a "good thing") they are not stupid...they know that the economy is going down the sewer and they know that when it collapses (and I think we may well be too late to stop it) people...ALL PEOPLE are going to be mad as hell and looking for answers and looking for someone to blame and to extract justice from...and the government is scared because they know they'll likely be the ones people are looking to blame. The government's only hope is to try and blame someone else...the Jews ew...the "rich"...the "whites"...the "old"...whoever proves to be the easiest to blame or all the above.

We are heading for a world of hurt that will make the great depression look like a minor market correction.

Obviously the folks who develop scenarios are in the "worst case" business.

What I find scary is the assumption that fanatical gun owners (by which ALL gun owners are judged)  will employ Weapons of Mass Destruction; biologicals are WMDs.

Now that they are throwing around extreme fantacism, what laws will be tabled to keep the public safe from gun violence?

I had no idea that "local school district employees" fall into the category of agressive 2A Supporters.

I think your making assumptions about their assumptions. I was in the guard. Most guard folks back then and the folks I know in the guard now are "gun fanatics". I had a platoon sergeant that called his FN FAL the "right arm of freedom". Scenarios are just that. They come up with wacky stuff that could happen and that's what they train for. And let us be honest, there's more than a few gun owners who say they're gonna rise up and start the revolution if there is a confiscation, so really they're training for a pretty realistic scenario, aren't they?

And boy, let me tell you, never has there been a group of steely eyed killers like the 52nd Civil Support Team! C'mon. These people aren't exactly door kickers. This is a group of pudgy, weekend warriors who likely spend their drill weekend taking selfies in uniform so they can post about what war heroes they are in the fight against yet to be eaten Baskin Robbins. Give me a friggin break.

Should concentrate on more realistic scenarios. Giant marauding radioactive japanese reptiles. Body snatcher invasions. Mass extinction comet impacts. Riots following long term internet and cable TV outages. Edited by Lester Weevils

The men that are in these guard units surely realize they will be out of the NG one day and will be back on this side of the fence. My son is in the NG. He's pro 2A all the way and loves to shoot. He tells me the majority of his piers feel the same. If these orders came down, who knows what would happen...you know? Edited by Randall53

Well, I don't know about you, but just about everything a school cafeteria produces could be classified as a biological weapon.

Thank you.  I'll be here all day.

I just looked over the documents that prompted this "outrage".  In the entire thing, this is the only part written about the 2nd Amendment is below.  They also had a CNN article about the NRA, Congress and the President that were in the list of "documents" from the pretend threat.

Information Findings and Recommendations:

52nd CST identified some information of law enforcement value in the building. All of the Down ragne documents that had a URL address listed on the bottom were downloaded and are included in the termination packet. On the chalk board as well as the tables there were several statements about protecting Gun Rights and Second Amendment rights. Additionally a phone number was written on the chalk board with the label William “the boss” Pierce (USPER), 304-539-6221 Area code for Charleston, WV. Below is a list of the documents the CST was able to identify.

OFP is right- a civil support team from the National Guard isn't a commando team in the least.  When I start seeing an exercise that has troops from a combat arms unit doing cordon & searches with confiscate firearms as a task from higher, I'll be upset.   That's even if you can get enough troops to show up for drill.

Also, those backwoods militias should be considered a threat and planned for.  Some of them are stupid and harmless; others are a dangerous amount of crazy and unpredictable.

Unfortunately, since people in general are fascist creatures, current day militias often require members to prescribe to belief structures that idealize specific social standards rather than focus on the Constitution and the basic principles of liberty. Otherwise I would be very active in a community militia. I'm not gonna go out and train with willfully ignorant people who believe 9/11 was perpetrated by the government and darkies are responsible for all the woes of our society. Then you should find like minded people and train with them.  I guarantee that if you use the word "militia" to describe your group, you WILL be labeled as an enemy of the state and as obvious redneck buffoons.

The word "militia" has been bastardized by the left.  I would wear that with a badge of honor.

BS Flag, 15 yds:

1-Mustard Gas is not a biological agent, it is chemical. If you wanted to poison food it would be a lot easier to use botulism or salmonella

2-Mustard gas being produced IN the school? Really? Without any kind of chemical protective gear?...the production lab itself becomes a hot zone and the producers most likely become casualties

The folks running this drill DID get a few things right however..

1-The decent law abiding freedom loving gun owners of this country ARE paying attention to what you are doing.

2-If those governmental entities start stomping on people's constitutional rights and protections there may very well be push back

3-The insinuation that this group of people would target innocent civilians is insulting and incorrect. Many of us here understand the laws of land warfare, the difference between combatants and non-combatants, ROE/use of force, and the justice/judgement to know the difference.

Ohio National Guard is certainly capable of taking out it's own population. Kent State, 1970. Only killed 4 and wounded 9 though, pretty penny ante and all.

It just seems like a waste of valuable resources + training to me, as this type of scenario just doesn't seem very plausable to me.

If this type of scenario was to ever materialize into the realm of plausable, the event which sparked it would be much, much more of a threat to the American People, so prehaps they should be training to prevent such an major event from sparking this sort of reaction, instead of training to deal with any resulting resistance to it.

I've got a list here of 39 terrorist plots against the United States which have been foiled since 9/11.

The one thing that they all have in common is that all of the terrorists had planned on killing as many infidels/people as possible in the name of Allah or Mohammad or Jihad or whatever twisted "do as we say or die" ideology they are attempting to spread.

So yea it makes perfect sense to train our servicemen & women to think of "right-wing"extremists are the real threat, but only if the Commander in Chief of our armed forces was just pretending to be a Christian.
