Honest?  Well, can't provide one of those.  Dishonest, that is a different story.  Let us know when you want a dishonest opinion.

I have a full size M&P 45. It has about 500 rounds through it and I have not had any problems with function or feeding. I could not get used to the trigger. I had the Apex duty trigger put in and it is excellent. It looks nice, fits my hands well, standard sights are adequate, etc. Now for my gripes. The trigger that S&W puts in the M&P Shield models is much better than the compact and full size M&Ps. Why do they not use the same design? I think S&W could have designed the standard magazine to hold more than 10 rounds. They make 14 round magazines but they look ridiculous, like something a Batman villain would have.

The bottom line is I would buy another one. Just add $100 onto the price so you can have an Apex trigger kit installed. Edited by Karnage

Thanks I've been looking and considering one and would rather have a real world review seems it'd be more trustworthy -Dusty-

I've shot them but not an owner. I like how they feel in my hand, seem to be more contoured than most poly guns. My buddy had a full line 9 - 45 both full size and compact all with the apex. Solid and reliable plus the 9 is his company issued sidearm when in Afghanistan

Dawg,

I shipped a couple of M&Ps off for some of the DOE boys to Salient Arms .. they added a blade trigger and did an absolute AWESOME trigger job.. things came back with triggers as nice as my pricey bolt guns.... I know they're very expensive with their work but I tell you honestly, night and day difference hands down.

Everything else M&P I've seen is either a love or hate... haven't had too many customers in the middle.. most either say it's their best gun or they wind up dropping it first chance they get.  I'd recommend finding an indoor range and seeing if you can rent one first.  I've always liked the Smiths I just find some don't fit my hand too well and regardles of how great they look, I never can shoot em well.

Good luck!

My biggest reason for asking I bought the wife one of the little bodyguard .380 with the built in laser while I'm not a fan of the .380 I was impressed with the gun my personal preference is the .45 I carry and have been considering the Smith for my next sidearm -Dusty-

I had a M&P 45 FS for a short time about a year ago. I recall it was a pretty nice gun, all in all. With the removable back straps it fit my fat, girlie hands much better than the Glock 21. It was very accurate, and ate any ammo I fed it, including my reloaded 200 grain LSWCs. Downsides: The trigger was too mushy and didn't seem to have a crisp break. No discernible reset on the trigger. As mentioned, the 14 round magazines are just too big to be carried as a spare. I just didn't like the gun enough to justify spending the money to upgrade to the Apex trigger kit. YMMV.

Like your dog........Like my M&Ps.  Have several.  Have severa 45s.  If I had bought my full size M&P 45 1st, wouldn't have bothered having the XD or my 3 1911s.  Recently shot an IDPA match....I like the big holes.  Feeds everything I reload or factory.  Negatives, lower mag cap than the XD, trigger is not great, but is certainly OK.  Not necessary to change it for Apex.  Can't see you going wrong with one.

I've had this for a couple of years. Granted I have a lot of APEX and other work done to it but I've got about 1K down the pipe and carry it most every day and I've never had one problem with it.
