Stories like this are becoming far too prevalent. It seems like every day there is a story of brutal child abuse. Trying to understand why this happens is beyond anything I can comprehend.

There is no excuse for this. None.

However, contrary to belief, I don't think that this thing is more common that it has been in the past. I think that the internet has made the the world smaller. We are now getting small local news we othewise wouldn't. I also think that investigation techniques have improved, where in the past this might have just been listed as a case of SIDs.

Obviously, they did not want the child. Why could they not just put her up for adoption, rather than abuse and neglect her until she died?

In answer to .. why?

There is no reason. Just the seemingly all consuming desire of the "me, me and I want it now" that seems to be the way of our society. To be responsible...to take responsibility for  one's actions....that is just not entering the thoughts of more and more people these days.

Because our society has decided we're too genteel to properly deal with the problem.

I think death is too good for them both. Keep them alive and give them 25 lashes three times a day for as long as they live. A life of pain and dread. Pain with every sting of the lash and dreading the next one they know is coming.....every day.
