What amendments did they pass in the senate?

Amendment 1 which states "This subdivision shall not apply if a permit holder is prohibited by § 39-17-1309 from possessing a firearm in or on the grounds of any public park, playground, civic center or other public recreational area."

If a school kid shows up, you would be guilty of a Class E Felony if you were already there.

We can't have this bill worse than it already is.  It is already bad enough that if someone has a permit and is UNKNOWINGLY carries where there is a school event going on, that is a possible felony charge.  I guess that makes politicians feel better that someone with a permit can be charged with a felony when a school group show up.

It is not really worse, it just keeps the same 39-17-1309 language, the bill as written was just better as it did not have that same language.

In all honesty I don't think any one of them knows exactly what the law is they are voting on and have no clue how to vote. There are so many people adding little pieces of pork fat here and there that by the time this makes it to the floor a bill that began as maybe have been 5 pages is going to end up with 200 pages and it still will not do anything positive about protecting anyone. As far as gangs in Memphis. Gangs in Nashville control the parks and that is true in about any large town or city. That is where they do most of their drug business and you can bet every one of them is packing a gun.............jmho   How many times have you heard on the news or read on line where a shoot out took place in a city park over a drug deal gone bad. It happens all the time in Chicago. Just about every night. Most times the only people hurt are the innocent ones with kids on the play grounds. They want us to go to the parks with our children but not be able to protect them. Sorry folks NOT ME. Don't need to go to a park that bad...........jmho

In Chattanooga, there was a gang-related shooting in Coolidge Park.  Their response was to post more signs.

Reminds me of Apu on a "Simpsons" episode once--"Please do not do that or I will have to ask you not to do that again."

The politicians are under the impression that signs stop bullets. I think all elected officials should be required to wear a sign on their backs like this one.   Nogunsallowed_zps4a7deafc.jpg

to protect themselves from all the CCW people they keep writing laws against since they already know criminals abide by their laws.

I believe that to the best of our knowledge, no one in TN has been charged with carrying in a posted zone unless its a school or they are already committing another type if crime.

I'm not saying not to follow the law, but even if you happen to be somewhere posted (unknowingly, presumably) and have to use your weapon in self defense you are exempt from prosecution for being in a restricted area anyways. Just saying.

And the Knoxville News Sentinel said that Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett was against the bill. Does anyone know anything about that? I find that VERY hard to believe.

Especially since you can already carry in Knox County parks.

Heard the same thing a week or so ago...........very disappointing.  The KNS is always against the 2nd Amendment and never are shy about using the 1st to do so.

Yeah, but the KNS has been known to misrepresent what people say. He might have been against amendments or some crap and they take that as the whole bill.

They need 1 more amendment. If a school uses a public park for a function, they must post a sign stating such, and giving the times affected, at all entrances. Said sign must be posted prior to the parks opening that day.

Of course, a better solution would be to open the parks for legal carry regardless of school functions.

Unenforced laws are the worse kind...  it allows for selective enforcement...  which is often used to throw the book at somebody you the DA doesn't like for whatever reason.
