I have interest from a Tennessee resident in a rifle I have for sale. I would need to ship, and while I know that it is perfectly legal for me to do so without an FFL being involved, I was tuned down once (twice really, but the second time they recognized Smith & Wesson as being okay to ship to ) at UPS.

I am required by Federal law to disclose that it is a firearm and was wondering if anyone has had any problems doing this.

Or specifically if you have done it at the post office in Murfreesboro.

I had a rifle shipped to me from another in-state resident through USPS.

UPS is the better way to go, in my experience. You can just box it up and ship it insured. USPS requires it be sent registered, which requires paper tape and is somewhat of a bother (not to mention if you get someone at the counter that doesn't understand the laws, then it becomes a real chore).

I have never shipped using USPS, but I have heard that things generally go well.

The thing to remember about shipping UPS or FedEx is not to take your shipment to one of the FedEx or UPS stores that you see everywhere in Kinko's or Office Max. Some of them cannot accept firearms, and the staff is very ignorant of laws and company shipping policies. You need to take your shipment to an actual UPS or FedEx facility (hub w/ delivery trucks coming and going). Your shipping experience will be much better.
