Who registers their gun with the manufacturer?

I bought a new rifle last week, and was getting ready to fill out the warranty / registration card, and got to thinking "Do I really want that info out there?"

I know Big Brother already has my info from when I made the purchase, but I was wondering how many people actually fill this out, and why or why not.

I've never filled one out, just never thought about it. I don't fill out warranty cards on anything so it's nothing to do with being paraniod.

I never fill out warranty cards on anything. I like to gamble on something going wrong. I figure I can fix about anything that might happen and I don`t need anymore junk mail coming my way. It seems like if you do register whatever you bought someone is sending you mail about everything you don`t want or need.

Maybe if they sent you some free swag I might. That would be the only reason I would do it though.

In the last couple of years I have registered three new Smith & Wesson’s, a new DPMS Panther and a two new Remington’s with the manufactures. The warranty and factory support is more important to me than some tin foil hat notion that someone form the government will come knocking on my door.

But that’s just my opinion.

And there you have it. So no reason not to secure your warranty.

I'm considering sending it in on my new Delton M4.

I say go for it. If you want your warranty, send it in. If the "Man" comes looking for it, just say you sold it.

I just keep my dated receipt.

Personally I've never seen a manufacturer demand it to be turned in for warranty work. Usually they just ask for the serial # when you call them and whats wrong with it.

Ruger sent me a coupon and a discount code for their online store everytime I registered a gun with them. They advertise the code, but the coupon was an extra suprise. I also like that you can register online with them. IMHO, every business should give you that option (and something free for registering).

I've never heard of a manufacturer declining to repair a firearm which the owner had not 'registered' with them.

The warranty cards are a marketing tool, more than anything, I bet... so they can track their customer base and sales exposure. I don't fill them out, simply because I think it's unnecessary (and I usually lose the card before I could fill it out, anyways). It wouldn't do much good to be paranoid, since if you ever did send the gun in for repairs, they'll get your information anyways.

I just registered my new Sig P226 and my XD-40. I figure that if Big Brother wants to know what I've got then they can get the info from the dealers.

Sig called and offered anything in their Sig Store for a discount.

I try not to be too paranoid about this but I sure hope that it does not bite me in the butt later!
