I'm also a WWII aircraft nut (the F4U Corsair is my fav) and I love to see these warbirds restored, especially to flying condition.

MEEEEEE TOOOOOO!!!

I would give a testee, oh hell both they aren't doing anything, to have an F4U.  A Mustang is sexy, a Corsair is all muscle with the sex!

Besides Pappy Boyington flew one.  I had every Baa Baa Black Sheep TV show memorized!  :usa:    "I get you Boyington!!"

Are you sure Pappy didn't fly a P-40 Tomahawk later called a War Hawk since as best I have researched over the years that was the only planes  that wore the Tiger Shark face through out WWII and Korea. The P-40 was always my favorite Fighter Plane in WWII and Korea. Not As fast and  sexy as the Cosair's and Mustangs but more durable in most cases.  Has away one been paying attention to last year when Obama shut down the fly overs for last few NASCAR races and the football games that private owners took up the plight and are flying Mustangs and Corsair's in the fly overs. There has even been a B-17 in a couple of them. I am also hearing rumors that there will be a full flyover at Super Bowl today of several different styles of Helicopters approved to so flyover at Super Bowl later today and a few of them from 101st out of Ft. Campbell.   I have also did some research on the Tuskegee Airmen and according to history they flew everything for the P-39's all the way up to all 3 of the P-51, B, C, and D. I'm kind a WWII buff but still like P-40 best.................lol....................jmho

Boyington did fly a P-40 as a member of the Flying Tigers in China.  When he rejoined the Marine Corps he then began flying Corsairs (the other coolest American plane of WWII).

If I am not mistaken Boyington and all the Flying Tigers were completely a voluntary bunch of pilots that Flew for General Chennault in Burma?..........

Me three! Loved that show. Nothing like the sound of a big radial. "Whistling Death"... Yeah baby.

I assume y'all have also heard of the "Glacier Girl" P38 that lived nearby in middlesboro KY until a few years ago? I attended a presentation on the retrieval and restoration several years ago. It was fascinating. I now work with a few people who helped with the restoration.

Always loved the Warbirds. Just the sexiest planes ever produced. My big love was always the P-38 Lightnings in any configuration.

One of the biggest thrills of my life was to ride in a restored B-17 this past summer. I absolutely now understand the words breathtaking and speechless. I really can't describe it. I was beyond belief for me.

Was supposed to be able to shift positions to different locales while in flight. But my fat gut and butt wouldn't allow me to get into several areas I wanted. Really wanted to get into the bombadiers seat, but just couldn't make it.

But not too disappointed, I got to stand in the open port above the navigators seat for the whole flight. I have memories that I can't describe. Unfortunately...no photos or video. The little Panasonic recorder I was using suffered some sort of catastropic failure during the flight and we haven't been able to recover anything from the sandisc.

But it was still great. If the chances comes around again, I'll certainly do it all over.

Wow!! peejman, that is great. I followed part of that saga, and have several books on it. I can't imagine what it was like to be at that ceremony. You certainly were fortunate to have done so.
