Alright, met a friend of my brother in-law with land that is taking me to get gobblers. Hopefully the luck or in you gentle men's case skill is with me. It will be evening hunt so I'll report as to what happens and these pics/tips are keeping me motivated.

Gonna do some calling in the morning for a buddy of mine. He has only been once. He hunts with his bow and I told him if he misses I will back him up with some #6 shot lol.

Doubled up with my buddy this morning. We worked this flock of birds for a long time this morning. There were 4 strutters, 8 jakes and a wad of hens. The hens were very vocal till about 8am. The strutters spent over an hour hung up at 70 yards. My buddy was up front on the gun and I was sitting a couple trees back calling. I finally got one of the longbeards to to ease off the hill our way. My buddy got a long shot and hammered him. As soon as he shot, the other longbeards came running in and jumped on his bird, so I hammered one too. We laser ranged the shots afterwards and they were a bit further than I would recommend. Fortunately we had both spent lots of time patterning and tweaking to make the shots lethal at that range. Both shooting 3.5" Hevi Magblends. I'd like to be good enough to call them to 20 yards every time. Till then, it's good to know the effective range of my gun. Don't ask how far... :)

It was a great hunt and good memories were made.

Wow! I'm glad to see that some of you have killed some great birds. Still no luck with me so far. I've usually got one or two by now.....................

First one down. 30 steps. Came in gobbling and had a hen come in between us for a cutting contest. I won. ygutezes.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks much. Didn't start out like it was gonna be a successful hunt. Soon as I hit the woods, had to answer natures call and spooked one off roost. Trekked on to my favorite spot. Then when I loaded shells my spring jammed. Tried to take it apart to repair and spring shot into the dark sky relegating me to a single shot pump. Get set up to call and realize my front sight was AWOL. It's a miracle that I connected. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm glad some people are seeing turkeys.  Rhinestone Rachel & I have been out 4 times on Brayton Mountain in Rhea county and have not seen the first bird.  We will endeavor to persevere.

I managed to get one Sunday morning at 10:15.  I was getting ready to go home and tried my wingbone and got one to gobble at about 100 yards. I set up quick and called 2 longbeards in at about 40 yards. I killed the one in front. 19 1/2 lbs., 10 1/2" beard, 1" spurs. Sorry I don't have a pic. Camera wasn't working right.

Did someone say, "Double down again!"?

Had a great hunt this morning that included some belly crawling behind a Pretty Boy decoy.

I shot first around 6:45. Then we spotted the rest of the flock in the next field and put the belly crawl surprise on them. That's my Mossy 535 tactical turkey. Shooting a Pure Gold .670 with 3.5" Hevi Shot Magblends. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What a crap day. Hunted all day, never got on birds. Would like to sleep in, but going to hit it again tomorrow morning. New place, new hope.
