2014 Spring Turkey Hunting Thread

#2 flopped today. 10 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. He didn't gobble until I was 50 or so yards from him. I was walking slowly through the woods calling on and off. He was on top of me before I knew it. Sat down by a tree and didn't even have time to put my face mask on. I just lowered my hat to cover my face. Once he started gobbling he came over the hill and I shot him around 25 yards.

Congrats again! I had a crazy wonderful hunt this morning, birds everywhere and lots of gobbling, but I couldn't get one in front of the gun. Good news is, they were fired up and it kept my heart racing for a few hours. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited by whiskey

Anyone giving it a go this weekend? I'll be out in the woods tomorrow early morning. I have been on a very unlucky streak for quite some time.

Congratulations to Shaun and anybody else that's killed one. I've still not had one to come in close enough yet. I've heard a bunch though.

Well that is a bunch more than I have heard!  haha

Bagged a good one this morning!  He was the only turkey all morning to respond to calling.  I took it very easy on the calling since they were not very vocal.  I hit the mouth call bout 8am and this guy hammered off behind me.  Few minutes later he was in full strut in front of me bout 25 yards.  The second he came out of strut....BOOM...let the Bennelli sing!

I dont have a scale so I cant say how much it weighs but the beard is 9 1/4" inch and the spurs were 1 1/4"

I took a jake on 4/2. First one I've had a shot at. I used to have one of those jobs that kept me at work on weekends. My dry streak is over.

Congrats Slappy!

I hunted today from 10 to 3. I had a bird gobbling for a few hours, but he must have been loaded with hens because he never got close enough for me to see him in the woods.

Most folks have had a pretty slow start, all except Shaun. :) I am sure it's his secret hunting crocs that allow him to sneak up on the birds. I'm trading my muck boots in for crocs if my luck doesn't improve soon.

KY opens next weekend. I have had pretty good luck on those farms I hunt up there. We shall see...

The two most effective forms of birth control are condoms and crocs!

Actually a friend of mine gave me a pair. I take them hunting and hiking with me. Feels great to kick off the boots and put those things on. Edited by Slappy
