you could probably use a .223 magazine for a 5.45 couldnt you?

Correct, but you lose three rounds capacity unless you use a C-products 5.45x39 30 rd. magazine.

I have also heard that HK AR mags will hold 30 5.45 rds. but have no way to substantiate that.

There's also the tipping issue if you use a 5.45 follower in a 5.56 mag. Lots of people are having problems with it, but seem to be able to work it out.

I, too, wouldn't have looked for an upper at ammunitiontogo. Their price on the upper is a bit high for me, though. Bud's Guns is getting $805.00 for a complete MP15R.

I was playing around with one of the S&W 5.45 guns we just got in earlier and I must admit I liked it.

I just got my MP15R upper from AIM on thursday. Haven't shot it, but looks good.
