Gosh, It has been so long since I have been in a mall I didn't know they were posted. Now I did go to Opry Mills a few times back years ago but went to BPS and no where else but had I decided to go any place else Sorry but I would have went armed. I don't print ever and if I am going to an area that I really need to go I carry. better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6...............jmho

This is why I no longer go to malls.

Using this logic why do you even bother leaving your house? Or are you saying you avoid malls because they are gun free zones?

I avoid malls because they involve two of my least favorite things, shopping, and crowds.

I was at Hamilton Place today. Walked in on the entrance by Red Robin. Of course there was the big no gun sign but one thing had me wondering, it was the standard picture of a handgun, red circle with a line through it but it said underneath "No weapons". Since there is a photo of a gun, does that mean that only guns are classified as weapons? Are pocket knives, and other "weapon like" objects allowed making only guns weapons? If that is the case why not "No guns" and if that is not the case then why only a gun on a "No weapons" sign, why not a list of every object classified as a weapon?

I try to avoid businesses that ban guns mainly because of principle although it's hard to avoid the post office and a few other places. Like you I avoid malls because of crowds, parking and the fact that there's nothing there that I feel I really need or want, but if they also ban guns I certainly wont go because they don't want me there so screw em.

Society is starting to think about pocket knives as weapons, especially our kids.  I gave my oldest a Kershaw to carry on her person, when she started college.  I asked her back before Christmas is she had it on her and she told me no.  I asked why not and she told me that weapons were not allowed at school or where she worked. Under Tennessee State Law, that knife is not defined as a weapon, but she thinks it is.  You can thank our secondary education system and the Feds (TSA) for that because, they have effectively put that message out there.  If your son or daughter is caught with a knife at school, they are looking at a year of suspension.  At the airport, TSA confiscates them, if found.  Try walking into a Federal building with one sometime.

I feel naked without a pocket knife weighting down my right pocket and tell all my friends that a man should always carry a pocket knife with them.  Hardly any of my friends does except one and she's a girl!

I don’t think you can blame the education system or the Feds for that… can you? If you daughter wants to find out if knives are allowed at her school or her place of work isn’t it her responsibility to find out? confused.gif

My point was that they have already been brainwashed to think of pocket knives as weapons and it started with the schools.  When I was in school, carrying a pocket knife was totally acceptable (70's and early 80's).  The education system started all that.

Well, knives of any size are banned under TN law at colleges, same as at elhi. Yes, I know, only if "going armed", but apparently everyone is considered to be going armed, at least through high school level anymore.

I realize this is rarely if ever enforced on college level without extenuating circumstances, though.

ok, then if we are going to begin defining things as weapons. There would be an encyclopedia as thick as the New York Phone Book. Since just an example, if a carpenter is working on a job and that job is posted no weapons and there are records of hundreds of people being killed with hammers and he has a hammer hanging out of his tool belt then technically and legally he could be arrested? People have been killed with pipe wrenches so if a pipe breaks in a posted no weapons Building and the plummer needs a pipe wrench to complete his repair he is breaking the law by taking the pipe wrench into that posted building. The list of know weapons that have been used to kill people is unlimited. Lamps, vases, Iron Skillets, ropes, scarfs, rocks and so many more have been used as weapons to kill people. I know a guy that was killed with a kitchen toaster tossed into the bath tube he was taking a bath in by a mad girlfriend. Where is the line drawn as what is actually a weapon???????............jmh?

Know someone that got in trouble for having a steak knife under his seat. Bought the car from an auction, was driving home. Tail light out. Officer pulled him, found the steak knife, ignored the paperwork saying the car had been brought hours before and charged him. The judge dropped the chargers, but even a cutlery set is a dangerous weapon we used every day.
